Wifi Router --> Access Point, Wired Router

Hiya Anandtech, I have an RT-AC68U in an upstairs closet that is the router and access point for our home network, most of which is wired via CAT6 directly to the closet. (It's behind an AT&T gigabit broadband modem, though that's not relevant here) We use the basic features on the AC68U - NAT...

    Multi-LCDs: 2xBig or 3xMedium? #1stworldproblems

I could possibly do 3x27 but not 3x30...that's just a bit much! What makes you think matching up panels and resolutions will be more difficult in the future? Seems like 1600x1200 goes with the 30" you can get from Dell or HP. I was leaning toward that because it seemed like the "best of both...

    Multi-LCDs: 2xBig or 3xMedium? #1stworldproblems

Hi there, I have what I appreciate is a subjective question but am hoping some of your anecdotal experiences will help me decide on a solution. The question is: 2 big monitors (27-30") or 3 smaller ones? I do about 70/30 web development programming/gaming on my system. For the past several...

Help with strange router/cable modem issue - SECV

Well, I had D3 via Cablevision in NYC for 2 years (100 down/20 up) and was without service for about 1 hour that whole time. Point taken though. At this point I'm ready to try anything. :)

Help with strange router/cable modem issue - SECV

The modem I've been using (the one they gave me) is an SB5101, which is a Docsis2 modem. The SB6120 (which isn't in the picture yet) is listed as backwards-compatible. What has that got to do with anything?

Help with strange router/cable modem issue - SECV

Hi there, Problem with my Internet cable service is a little confusing. Here's the setup: Service Electric cable Internet in the Lehigh Valley, PA, 7 megabits down and 2 up (not great, I know, but that's not the problem). Cable modem is a Surfboard 5101. Connected to an SMC SWCWGRB14-N...

    what ~24" 1920x1200 LCD should I get?

That Doublesight looks good, except for the one review that says its' white (?) and not black. Doublesight's web site says it's a 'legacy model.'

Upgrade schedule - now, wait a bit?

Sounds good! I wasn't looking forward to buying all-new DDR3 RAM anyway, hopefully it'll be cheaper next year. Appreciate the input. :) I am also building a machine for the fiancee -- a good middleweight and it'll inherit my GTX 260. Looks like AMD is the way to go for bang-for-your-buck if...

Hi there, Planning to redo my desktop within the next couple of months and am trying to get a handle on the current picture for motherboards & CPUs. Currently have a Q9450 with 8 gigs of DDR2 RAM on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3p board and a GTX 260. Desktop is used for development and gaming - mostly...

NAT Forwarding - any way other than ports?

Hi there, In a bit of a pickle as I'm moving from NYC, where I have 100 Mbit down/20 up + 5 static IPs for $120/mo, to the Lehigh Valley in PA, where they want $200/mo for any static IP service at all and that's 12 down/2 up. The same service without the static IP is $55/mo and I'm trying to...

    Clear up some networking questions

Thanks for the site. I think that has what I need (and Cablevision has the rest). While my account is a business account, btw, the 100 megabit offering is not exclusive to business accounts - it's new as of about five or six months ago in the NYC market (and maybe Long Island as well). $99/mo...

    Clear up some networking questions

I know I can use alternate ports and do everything that way. I've done that before, a while back. That doesn't really clear up my understanding, even if it is a practical solution. Is it not possible to have device A, in this case a Cisco 800 router, doling out 5 external IP addresses, of which...

    Clear up some networking questions

Well, let me explain a little more what I'm trying to do. I don't really care how it's done. I run a couple servers that are development testbeds for my small company. My link here at home is a 100 megabit cable link through Cablevision in NYC. It is of use to me to have static IPs assigned to...

    Clear up some networking questions

The 5-port device the ISP gave me a 'Cisco 800.' I don't have any sort of password for it and I don't know if I can tamper with it. The buffalo WiFi transmitter I'm using is a WHR-GP-W54.

    Clear up some networking questions

My ideal scenario is one in which I can assign my own internal IPs to whatever devices I please, and then route all 5 external IPs from my ISP to whichever devices on my internal network that I please. Right now I just have parallel networks - three desktops/servers plugged into the ISP switch...

    Clear up some networking questions

Hi there, I'm curious about how networks talk to each other insofar as certain devices can be considered to be on one network versus another when separated by gateways/routers/other devices. I'll use my home network as an example. I have a desktop PC and server that have direct LAN links...

    Mid- or full tower?

On NewEgg those things are like $319. I'm prepared to drop $150, $160 maybe, but I'm not sure I see what my dollar is getting me beyond that point. Even the Antec 1200 is $160 atm.

    Mid- or full tower?

I don't think water cooling is in my future - I rarely (if ever) overclock. I'd just like a nice case with room to work in, decent airflow and not too much noise. I don't need ultra-silent or super-duper airflow, but I'd like to invest in a case that I can keep for quite a while. I don't...

    Mid- or full tower?

Here's a quick question that I would've thought was a no-brainer but am not so sure about these days. I've been using mid tower cases for years, particularly the CoolerMaster Centurion line - nice balance of features for a reasonable price. I'm building a new system soon and am going to...

Intel Matrix RAID - disabled then enabled, bad now?

Hiya, I have long had a simple RAID 0 setup controlled by an Intel Matrix RAID controller on my gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P board. It's just two 250 GB drives. I have a separate 500 GB drive (the boot drive) which is controlled by a separate (Gigabyte) SATA controller on the board. I recently...

Vista 64 for gaming rig yet?

Hi there, I'm setting up a new system fairly shortly and had planned on moving my current 32-bit OS setup over to it. The last time I looked into going 64-bit, it would've meant giving up iTunes and quite a bit of gaming. Is this still the case? What are the hurdles to adopting Vista x64...

Hi there, I'm looking for a quick recommendation on a new motherboard. I'm trading up from my ASUS P5N-E SLI, which has given me trouble since I've had it (it never liked that I had 4 gigs of RAM, or else it didn't like the SB Audigy Pro, or else it just enjoyed the occasional blue-screen)...

USB fails after reboot until re-plugged

Yeah, but the thing is, I only have to do it for stuff connected to the USB monitor hub on the 275T. Any USB device plugged directly into the system works fine. It's also only a problem from a power off to power on - rebooting is fine. I have a USB hub lying around, I guess I could just...

USB fails after reboot until re-plugged

There is no Vista-specific USB driver. The monitor came with an XP driver and I got their latest Vista driver off their web site. Said nothing about USB, though, I think it's just a monitor definition. USB Hubs don't require special drivers in Vista unless they're special hubs of some kind...

How important is an HDMI input versus a DVI/HDCP input? I'm looking at 27-28" widescreens and I like the Samsung 275T a lot. I don't have any devices right now with HDMI outputs and I'm not a huge videophile such that I'd care if all I could use on one such device is a component output. Is...

    LCD or LCD TV?

I guess I'm just suspicious of the utility of such a huge screen. If it was at all practical to have a 37" LCD instead of a 26" or 27", and it cost less, why wouldn't more people do it? What are the drawbacks to using such a large screen, assuming it doesn't have things like overscan?

Posted something like this in the LCD thread but it's less a "is this a good LCD" question and more a general, philosophical ignorance on my part. I'm moving up from a 21" Viewsonic widescreen LCD. I need a decent all-rounder -- I an a developer (programming - not graphic art) but since this...
