Backing up Cisco Router Config via SNMP

Since you'd only really need to issue a copy tfpt command from the router to a tftp server to save the config, you could write an expect script to do this. I actually have the basics for one that could do this, though fairly simple, meaning it doesn't handle any errors very well, but, it works...

LINUX Networking Issue

Actually if you only want to do this from your box, then all you need is a host entry. If it's a Windows box then it's an entry in c:\windows\hosts. You'll learn, eventually, that typing the ip is most likely less characters to type than the hostname itself. :)

Of course it worked :) .Your acl was only allowing gre packets from the inside (anything connected to that int). Remember, there's an implicit deny statement on all cisco acl's. And if you apply the acl as an in filter it filters anything coming into that interface directly, as an out filter...

BIND 8 should be included with webmin. Granted I don't actually use it, but I've set it up for a lot of customers. That mod should be in there. Like Ragu. :)

Chill? I would, but that is not what you said. You said He is running apache so this would be a server, meaning no X. If you don't want something to be misinterpreted, then be clear in it's statement. Simple rule. And, if you'd read what he posted, he stated he's not even using sendmail, so...

Just because you're booting into X doesn't mean you can't run/start Apache, Sendmail, or any other daemon for that matter. Bad assumption. X is not something you want to start on a true server, but that doesn't necessitate you can't.

Well, if he's not using sendmail the appropriate thing to do is to stop it from starting. Depending on the run level you start in (X being RL 5, CLI being RL 3), just go into /etc/rc.d/rc3.d (or rc5.d) and remove (rm) the symlink to the sendmail startup script. Heck, do it in both directories...

Umm, dude, okay n0cmonkey, it "wraps" ftp, telnet, pop2, pop3, imap, smtpd, and some more schtuff. And that's wimpy ole inetd, xinetd is much more robust in what it can do. tcpwrappers rocks! And, it's not just a Linux thang. Heck, it ran on this Solaris 2.6 box we're about to shut down. :)...

Cisco Pros: Is my router dead?

Sounds like something just got a bit freaked in the interfaces logic is all. No biggee, happens sometimes. If it's working now with no errors I would say you've fixed the problem. And you learned something as well. All's well that ends well. :)
