Yup, it's clearly _something_ based on the Grand Canal in Venice. It's roughly what you would see if you were to stand near (possibly even on) the Rialto bridge and take a photo towards St Mark's, although I don't think it's an exact likeness. I could be wrong though, as I'm going from memory...

NTLDR error at startup

Sorry, but having a non-bootable floppy which was formatted under Windows XP/2k/2k3 etc in the drive is the number 1 worldwide cause of this error. I used to see it all the time - customer calls up raging that we've destroyed his server and NTLDR has gone missing because of something we've done...

Oblivion Patch Now Available !!

Nope. I don't think they will do either. Eventually ATI'll stick the Chuck patch into the main Catalyst release, and it works fine the way it is, so why would they bother?

How is AMD 4x4 gonna help gamers??

Oblivion does scale with the cores to some extent - it just doesn't change the fact that if you crank up the graphics details/resolution/AA etc., you're still going to find yourself GPU-limited in most situations in the game, whatever card you're using.

20" widescreen compared to 19" regular

I think they're roughly equivalent to a standard proportion 17" in height. Personally, I decided to stick with a normal 19" as I didn't want to lose the height. If I'm going to get a widescreen, which I'm sure I will at some point in the future, I'll go with at least a 24" model :).

POLL : what's the best aftermarket cooler for the x1900xtx?

How? I mean, I can see that it looks like it should at least fit on top without much trouble, but you certainly won't get any/proper memory cooling, it that makes any difference. I can't find any info about anyone even trying this either. Got any links?

You do need decent airflow over the voltage regulators: I added Zalman ramsinks to mine and stuck an undervolted PCI exhaust underneath - it ran fine without, but I prefer the peace of mind the slight extra cooling gives me. I haven't tried adding an 80mm fan on to the bottom block - I suppose...

Um, did anyone here actually look at anything apart from the power consumption page? The rest of the review clearly shows Quad SLI as totally unready for anyone to actually use. Would you not have expected it to have considerably better performance? What's the point in having "low" power...

Upgrading from a 19" CRT to a 19" LCD

I have the Vp930 - coming from a CRT I can't directly compare it to other LCDs, but I'd say it's a pretty good all-rounder. Suits pretty much everything I do with it. Unfortunately, pretty much the only thing I've done with it since I bought it is play Oblivion. Must... stop... life... being...

If you're CPU-limited at 1024x768, you're not going to get any better frame rates by putting the resolution higher. All you're doing is putting more work onto the graphics card, without lowering the work the CPU needs to do. The game might look better, but it won't run any faster. This tells you...

4xAA with HDR is a bit of a killer, although no idea why it would be bad with rats or flying demon things, whatever they are. Imps? Does it slow down with people around, or just rats & imps? You should be doing better than this really though. I've got all the settings cranked up with 4xAA...

Forcing Anti-aliasing without giving up HDR on Oblivion

Yeah, Oblivion seems to kick the ever-living crap out of systems like nothing else. My X1900XT will run everything else at max Overdrive levels (700/800), but I have to pull back to 670/780 with Oblivion otherwise heat goes through the roof and ye olde VPU recover message comes up. Looks...

Very nice :). Looks like it might have been a problem with the 6.2 drivers then. There was a guy on the TES forums who had the exact same thing, although I never found out if/how he fixed it as the boards move so ridiculously quickly there and the search seems to be constantly on the blink...

Searching for an uniform backlight pannel

Mine (VP930, Jan 2006) is excellent. Seems very evenly lit to me. Possibly very slightly lighter in the corners if I turn the brightness right up, but then I never have the brightness right up normally as I value my eyes ;). There's a very, very, very slight ghosting if you really concentrate...

Thermalright V1 Ultra Installation problem

Hmm, that doesn't sound too good. My core idles about 45-50, gets up to mid-70s-ish under load. Is the fan up full? Have you got decent airflow that'll let the heat get out of the case? If you take the block off, can you see that you got a nice even contact between the core and the block...

Sounds about right to me. OcUK's charging £217ish inc VAT - not going near unless a) they bring that down a good sixty or seventy quid, or b) every single game from now on looks rubbish without them, but incredible with. So I guess that'll be a) then :).
