If anything good comes out of this at all, I hope the joining of LCD panels becomes AT LEAST as seamless as the two lines of a Trinitron monitor were. I've had the idea of joining multiple small panels to make one cheaper giant one for quite some time. Still - this one sucks. I hope better...
Folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't ALL 780G AM2+ boards support a Phenom 2+? (Some might just need a BIOS update...) [shrug]
The 4850e/5050e is a tiny bit more expensive than a 65W processor, but not by much and the extra 20W power savings could go a long way in keeping your...
Good point. I don't think I ever said it would be better... it would be similar. However, all the OTHER day-to-day tasks would be much, much faster & better. That would buy time until you could afford a GPU to go with it, then the whole thing would be smokin'! (well... in comparison!) ;)
My Dell c521 has a lousy 280W PSU and it's powering a 65W processor and Radeon 4650 juuuust fine!
Don't bother buying the 3450 new unless you catch a sale where it's almost free.
I totally understand not having a lot of cash to spare! I'm all about making the most system for the least...
Cheap, dirty & ugly. But, I don't have cash and I don't care what it looks like since it's inside a steel case with no windows. Ventilation is very cood for a low-profile machine so it'll work like a charm. I've done it before with other cards, so I guess we have another winner. Hooray for...
You're forgetting how large a factor the processor can play! I have a pair of Dell C521's (well, one *just* sold) and the difference between the Sempron 3200+ (about equal or better than the OP's processor) and the other had a 4850e (2.5GHz) and now a 2.7GHz 5200+ With everything else...
That combo you mentioned is of a mobo + video card. What you need it the mobo, cpu and RAM. 780G chipset, 2x2GB, best AM2/AM2+ processor you can afford. That's about $120 or so there... maybe $150 tops.
I saw no combo deals for that one today. Just look for the individual parts that are...
No offense, but you'll still be hampered by barely-passable CPU and very low RAM.
May I instead suggest a new motherboard with onboard Radeon 3200 IGP (about equal to your current 9700Pro for "free") an affordable AMD dual-core processor and 4GB of cleap DDR2-800 RAM. In fact, that'll be...
Makes more sense to buy the affordable 4850 w/ silent cooling right off the hop, rather than a car + aftermarket cooler (=more money) or a SLI rig which requires an expensive motherboard upgrade too.
Dollar for dollar, the Gigabyte 4850 passive that was mentioned looks like the best...
No - it's THIS one. I'd much rather have had the one you linked... it's quiet and well-built. However, mine has less plastic on the heatsinks so an 80mm fan strapped to the side should provide all the cooling it needs without costing anything. ;)
Hey - if money was no object, I'd have a...
Maybe... so long as it works low-profile. (with a little headroom.) I'll check it out. I might even try disabling the fan and strapping a good 80mm on right next to it! :D How's that for cheap & dirty?
Okay. I *wanted* to buy the awesome-looking Sapphire low-profile Radeon 4650 card but I had no choice but to buy from a specific online store that only had the Powercolor card.
The good news is it's speedy and the picture quality is brilliant. It's also got fan control.
The BAD news is...
The 4350 will do HDMI aud/vid FAR better, just being a much, much newer part with all the trimmings (because it's built to do exactly what you're asking it to do!)
Bingo! And since you've got the "in", let me give you one more nudge in the side for more low-profile stuff. ESPECIALLY mid-range where you get some decent speed but don't require the extra 6-pin power.... or know it won't draw too much power so a single-molex/6-pin adapter is included. And...
Okay, read the top post to see the five lousy power connections I have. 1 molex, 3 SATA, 1 floppy. ;) There is only one rail to draw from.
The card is the Sparkle 9600GT which will run safely with my minimal config (I've done it before.) but the way I did it then was so convoluted...
I almost forgot about that one:
GF2MX, GF2MX 200 & 400, GF4MX 420/440/460 and GF2 & GF4MX IGP (crush!)
That's a lot of product reuse... it or the Radeon 8500 and its rebadges & IGPs are pretty close to tied...
Since there's been some talk about it lately, let's have some fun!
Name the graphics chipset that had been re-named, re-done, or re-released the most number of times? :) Be sure to name as many of the re-released as you can...
GAME ON!
NCIX is a good place for us Canadians, too. I planned to purchase my card from Newegg though, as I've earned a small credit and have the card I want (on sale, too!)
My Dell C521 has only one molex power connector, 3 SATA's and one floppy.
My new video card will require a 6-pin connection.
Does Newegg sell a single molex to 6-pin adapter? I know they exist but I can't find it...
... can I change my floppy connection to a molex one and use it with...
Nice find! It sure looks better than the PowerColor card! I'll hold out until it's available... I'm in no super rush (as painful as the 6150SE IGP is.)
BTW, the model number is:
sapphire HD 4650 512MB DDR2 PCIE HDMI LP
Maybe we can collectively convince Newegg to carry it? ;)
