What kind of "streaming", your own content or the Netflix kind? Streaming (Netflix, Youtube kind) BR play can be had for ~$150-$250 or a PS3 for $300. The lowest end CPU/MB combo's over the AVS forums (noted in a previous post, they are excellent) would run you at least ~$200. The midrange...
Also, if you're not locked into Intel, AMD Phenom II x6 1090T looks like a really nice unit for ~$300.

From what I've read many are OC'ing quite nicely to 4GHz. With 6 threads possible, this could make a excellent rendering computer.
No problem, glad to help.
I just upgrade from Sony Movie Studio 9 to version 10. It was a huge improvement. Version 9 had a lot of problems using the HD 60p content from the Panasonic camcorder. About half of the times I tried to convert it into a movie file the program would crash. I...
Where did you purchase it from? Any chance or returning it?
Having said that I think will still be OK.
I have the following system;
Asus P5E socket775 MB
Intel Q9450 OC @ 3.2GHz (1.32v)
Asus White Knight cooler
G.Skill 8GB DDR2-800 (4x2GB)
ATI HD4870 1GB GPU
4 HD's (150GB WD Raptor...
I have a Panasonic HDC-TM700K Camcorder that takes 1080P video.
I use SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Suite to do my editing and rendering.
You might to take at look at this program as Newegg currently has it on sale for $70 after MIR.

I have a quad...

As noted by a previous poster, check temps using RealTemp.
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
It has a "stuck" senor test. I don't know if you will be able to get a RMA for a single stuck senor, but I kind of doubt it.
Not sure why the OP didn't return back to this thread, but just an FYI to those still posting. It looks like he has already built his new gaming rig using a Q9400.

It's not as much about "supporting" RAID and MS is wanting people you use the "Drive Extender" and "Duplication" features within WHS. This works out to a kind of software RAID 1 (mirrored) array without the need for special hardware or the need for identical capacity harddrives. If you go to...
According to this short article at Extremetech this is not a deal but a overall price drop by Microsoft.

Price is the same at ZZF

Just to add to the discussion,
There is a Black Edition 5000+ at XS doing 3.7GHz on air. http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=162738
on edit: there's also one on H-OCP doing 4.0GHz on dry ice. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1239834
You did know that at stock the Q6600 is 2.4GHz and the E6750 is 2.66GHz...
So most benchmarks at stock speed (which don't take advantage of the 2 extra cores) will favor the E6750.
Check out this thread at xtremesystems on quad core overclocking...
In Anand's defense, he had no choice as it was AMD itself that sent server MBs to preview/test a desktop CPU.
It should also be noted that there wasn't any software hacks. The simply removed the PCIe riser (which converted the x16 connection into two x8 connections) and removed the GPU back...
Here is a link to the article text. Nothing against the OP, but the original link only led to PowerPoint graphics.

Xtremenotebooks.com has one listed at their website right now. Starting price is $3350.

By the time Shanghai comes out in 2008 ( http://www.dailytech.com/AMD+4...n+2008/article7132.htm ), it will be competing with Nehalem ( http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=8147 ) not Penryn.
From his previous post.
I believe the NAS part is just a side use of the machine (not his desktop unit). The majority of the time it is contributing to distributed computing efforts.
Hey lopri, did you see this article. http://hubpages.com/hub/_86_Ma..._Wont_Believe_Who_Wins
They compared a '86 Mac Plus to a '07 AMD Dual core machine in various MS Word operations. Guess which one won! ;-)
Now before anyone gets their underwear in a bunch, I realize the comparison was...
Sounds like a plan. Extra RAM is always a good upgrade. Hope you get the A/C fixed soon. Not sure where your at, but here in MI you would need it [highs in the mid-80's with nothing but bright sunshine for the next five days :-) ]
As others have said, I don't think a Conroe based chip will work.
According to this link at the Intel website: http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/925x/index.htm
Only Pentium 4 based socket 775 chips will work. As noted previously, one of the 65nm Cedar Mill core might help a little...
Dailytech article with very "informal" Cinebench benchmark run on 1.6GHz Barcelona system at Computex http://www.dailytech.com/Quick...ebench/article7574.htm
Quote from article regarding launch date:
I took a look at Newegg, the 805 is $60, but it OEM and doesn't include HSF. The Presler core 915 is $88, includes the HSF, a better warranty, 65nm process (vs 90nm for 805) and free shipping. This would be a better deal to me for the small price difference after you purchased a HSF for the...
Actually I would recommend a refurbished OptiPlex 745. Below is an example of a nice unit for much less than new. C2D, 2GB RAM, DVD Burner all for $660 including the 3 year business class warranty (2 years better than the home Dimension desktop warranty). The last two computers my family has...
Seeing as the Q6600 is supposed to drop in price to $266 in August of this year (~4 months or so Price Drop Thread) I would suggest waiting a little while. What you built should serve you well and buying now would just mean you will be losing about $200 now rather than later (in trying to sell...
Actually, it will be 16 threads per chip. The Nehalem (sp?) chip will have up to 8 physical cores (from what I read there will be dual, quad and octa core variants).
Are you sure about the Clovertown Xenons being slower? Here I looked at this link Clovertown article
It had quotes like:
But when you look at the numbers in the table, the Octa core Opteron is 1720 and the Octa Core Xeon 5345 is 1686 see second table the difference is on ~2-3% which...
Tuckie,
Just one thing to consider, which I read about on another forum. If for some reason your motherboard ever dies you may have a very hard time recovering your RAID setup. Say after 3-4 years your MB craps out, it maybe very hard time finding an exact replacement with the same RAID...
Just wondering what type of work you are doing?
Do you really need even a "cheap graphics card"? All my work boxes have used integrated graphics and they have preformed perfectly well for Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. Could save a couple extra bucks with a G965 chipset. However, if you plan...
Isn't this quote, kind of like saying; "Isn't it unfair of AMD to have an on die memory controller?"
Chip designers/companies make choices and then they try to optimize those choices.
Nothing unfair or "cheating" about it. Just good business.
Oops, sorry Viditor I misread your post. My apologies, please ignore previous stupidity on my part. I should read a little closer. Thanks for the correction Furen...
I guess I'll pick some nits, but by my calendar 3Q starts July 1st which as of today (2/23) is at least 18 weeks away. In my opinon, that is a little more than "a few weeks". Not trying to be jerk, as I am waiting as anxiously as everyone else here but it will come out when it comes out. That...
