Recommend me a B&W multifunction printer

Thanks for the suggestion. I see people are indeed happy with this model. I've just missed a good offer on the Xerox 3220 (should have decided sooner), so now the 3220 and the MFC-7840W cost the same, and the 3300MFP is $70 more. Let me see what's the cost of consumables for the Brother...

Recommend me a B&W multifunction printer

Our OKI MB280 machine needs a toner replacement, and my father wants to take the opportunity to throw it away. I don't blame him, since it has disappointed us on so many levels. We don't print all that much. Maybe 400 pages a month, only B&W. It's still a mystery to me how the last 5500 page...

    Physically blocking access to ports

I find that it is sometimes desirable to physically stop an IO port from being used. Sometimes it's faulty onboard LAN that you've replaced with a PCI card, sometimes a faulty PS/2 port, sometimes a broken USB cluster on the back panel that could cause a short if used, and I imagine that in...

    Any objections to PowerColor 5770?

The fan on the PCS+ version is a little bit different from the version I am looking at but it's reassuring to know that your card is quiet. Thanks!

    Any objections to PowerColor 5770?

Thanks, I am also leaning toward the 1GB edition. It is just that the third party coolers (and sometimes custom PCBs) are always source for confusion. I guess that is inevitable in this market because it is the only way for board partners to cut costs, differentiate themselves from the...

    Any objections to PowerColor 5770?

Thanks all for sharing your positive experience with PowerColor. I'm buying in Israel, so I pick from what is available here. I don't see the $135 Sapphire card here, there is a 512MB edition with that nice cooler -- the 512MB cards are cheaper, but would it be a good idea to skimp on RAM...

    Any objections to PowerColor 5770?

cusideabelincoln: I think the only other reasonable option is a 5750. I try to make room for the 5770 within the budget. For this chip, I have the alternatives of HIS 5770 1GB H577FK1GF or Connect3D 5770 1GB C3D-H5770-1GD5E, but other brands are more expensive. Thanks.

    Any objections to PowerColor 5770?

I spec out a gaming PC for a friend. Base specs are: Intel Core i3-540 Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L. It is an ATX board. I may install a USB 3 add-in card later on. 1 x Kingston DDR3-1333 2GB. I may uprade the RAM (buy a 4GB module) when it gets cheaper. For graphics I think about getting this...

    DP55WB shortcomings?

I'm not sure about the choice of HSF. There's the Ninja 2, which is now compatible with socket 1165, and the Noctua NH-U12P, which is $18 more here in Israel. I personally have not used either before, because up until now the Freezer 7 Pro worked for me with dual core builds, but I believe the...

    DP55WB shortcomings?

I've come across some combo deals that include this motherboard and I am wondering if it is any good. http://www.intel.com/Products/Desktop/Motherboards/DP55WB/DP55WB-overview.htm I'd be using it for a Revit workstation build paired up with a lower end Lynnfield (750/860), and a low to...

Edimax "nLITE" USB adapter: any good?

Hi, I need to get a wireless adapter for a desktop. I was looking at the tried and true EW-7128g PCI card, but then I noticed this draft-n USB adapter, which is only a tad pricier, and wondered if it wouldn't be a better choice at this point. Has anyone tried it yet...

Anyone with Gigabyte EG31MF rev 2.0?

I've been experiencing audio dropouts on this board, which I suspect are related to very high DPC latencies that the DPC Latency Checker utility reports here. Here's what I get when I run it on my system: http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/929/genuseoj9.png Can anyone who owns this board...

    Can't resume from S3 sleep

MCE Standby Tool fixed resume by USB under XP. Although it didn't unhide the Power Management tab for my USB devices, it apparently ticked the wakeup checkbox under the hood. The tool is resident but I've uninstalled it and the settings still hold. Still no luck with PS/2, but that may be out...

    Can't resume from S3 sleep

I didn't have as much luck with PS/2 peripherals. They're completely unresponsive during S3 under either XP or Win 7. Only exception to this is the keyboard's "power" button, which if I set the BIOS to wake by "Keyboard 98", allows me to power on the system and resume from S3. But that's about...

    Can't resume from S3 sleep

I checked the Power Options dialog in XP, but couldn't find a setting related to Energy Star or sleep states, so I'm not sure if the current OS setting conflicts with the BIOS setting. The Advanced Power Options dialog in Win 7 seems far more customizable, but again does not make a...

    Can't resume from S3 sleep

Hi all, I need help fixing a standby issue with my Gigabyte GA-EG31MF-S2 board. This board supports two sleep states, S1 (Power On Suspend) and S3 (Suspend to RAM), which is the default. S1 works but is not ideal because the fans and possibly other components remain on, and the system...

Hot Still? e7200 at Frys for $80

What was the stock voltage like on the more recent chips? I bought a E7200 in June and thought the 1.1625 VID was too high, then I saw people who were getting values above 1.2... certainly no fun.

Is this the best motherboard money can buy?

The VRM & audio capacitors are solid. The others are liquid but still quality ones. Where did you hear about the noise problem? This is not typical of Gigabyte's recent motherboards. There were no complaints that I've seen on the audio in GA-MA69GM-S2H which is very similar in design to the...

    Gibabyte P35 based MB rec's

I too have recently looked at the differences. Here are my findings if you're interested. P35-DS3L: Base model, so to speak. 4 SATA ports through ICH9. 2 SATA cables in the box. 3 fan headers: SYS_FAN1, PWR_FAN and 4-pin CPU_FAN. Only CPU_FAN is speed-controlled at BIOS level. P35-DS3...

Intel brand vs Asus, Gigabyte, Abit, etc

Thare are no PS/2 ports on this board. I don't know what they mean by "optional" here. There's an adapter bracket in the box that converts the internal SATA port to eSATA. It will not fit in a low-profile case, though. One may question the wisdom of shipping a floppy with a board that can't...

Does a UPS need a driver nowadays?

Btw, here's the model I'm eyeing: http://www.advicepower.com/r_p...ctDetails.aspx?PID=630 It has a neat readout on the front, so one can learn about the battery's level straight from the horse's mouth. :)

    Audio Driver?

Yes, it seems like a global driver to me. It really wouldn't hurt trying it. If it doesn't work you can try locating the exact model of your onboard audio with hardware detection software like SiSoft Sandra Lite, Everest or Craig's freeware command-line PCI32, and google the chip's model.

Does a UPS need a driver nowadays?

It's ok, all I really need is the basic functionality of having the system shut down if I'm not around, but I'm glad to hear the software works well for you. From your experience, is the built-on UPS service compatible with all models?

Hi, I'm about to buy a UPS to complement a new build. I haven't used one before, which may explain the odd nature of this question. Anyway, does anyone know what's the current state of OS support for these devices? Does it matter which brand you buy (e.g. APC vs. others), and which...

    Anyone have the ASUS P5K-E?

Back in June, many reviews noted that Asus' higher end P35 models (including P5K-E) were drawing 20-35W more than other brands and running hotter for no good reason. I believe Asus has since corrected the flaw but haven't seen any source confirm it.

What is the best sound chip on motherboards?

Gary noted on severel occassions how he likes the 889 better than the 888 and 883. Personally I was pleased with the analog ports on Gigabyte's 690G ATX board, which uses the 889 chip. Actually this is to the contrary, at least as far as EAX goes. Analog Devices supports proper EAX 2.0...
