    PCMark Bias?

I didn't see this on DT, so I thought I'd put it up here. Ars Technica came up with some interesting finds about the PCMark2005 memory benchmark. There's some significant performance discrepancies when the CPUID is changed from CentaurHauls (VIA) to GenuineIntel. Here's the link Has AT...

    Copyright Law

I originally read this article when it was linked to from /. The author has a pretty innovative idea, perhaps it would be worth pushing it? Read it here. What do you think about copyright law? Does it work in it's current state? Why or why not?

Connection dropping issue (On T1-line using Linky WRT54G)

Is the firmware on the linksys up to date? I've had problems with dropped connections on a WRT54G because the firmware wasn't up to date. Also, consider using a 3rd party firmware since you have the 54G =P. I'm assuming that your apartment management splits the T1 across all the other...

    WRT 54G .... v6 T_T

Hey guys, So my grandparents bought a wrt54g... v6. It's neutered. I can't really get DD WRT onto it.. and the VXworks OS really sucks, I've been online 20 minutes and had to reset it 2 times. Even my grandmother, who just started to learn about yahoo email, complains about the resets...

Quiet and affordable CPU cooler for socket AM2?

There's alot more to a quiet system than just the CPU cooler. Try the P180. I'm using it right now and its awesome. Most of the stock tri-cool fans are quiet enough on low. Stick a Seasonic S-12 (do they make those anymore?) onto the case. Extremely quiet case. The loudest part is the hard...

    too many active ip connections?

you can also use the logging feature under the admin tab. Set it to high, and tell it to log everything. You will see the ports and the IPs of those connections. I had over 400 connections coming from one PC and while it was running no P2P clients. Turns out that the PC was compromised.

    A Solid Wireless Router

I actually just got the WHR HP G54 on Jack's advice =P. DD-WRT was a piece of cake to setup (Although I'm relatively proficient with computers and linux). Anyways, the range is pretty good, almost double of my old router. Stability seems fine, and I love the logging options + other features...

    Question about case

  11. T

Boring saturday, feel like spending money that i dont have.

spraying the sides of your case with rubber will have minimal effectiveness. You'd be MUCH better off with a corsair HX series PSU (OEM seasonic + modular) and with Nexus or undervolted Yate Loon fans. Don't bother with using sound absorbing material unless you change the components first. It...

    Most Quiet Case??

mcurphy, read the SPCR review of the P180 first before you order the solo. IMO, the P180 is the quietest case hands down. The light in my room is louder than this baby =D

    Carbon Fiber case from Ultra.......

There's minimal heat transfer through the walls of the case anyways, most of it is through the vents. We were talking about this when everyone was debating about steel vs aluminum cases.

    Water or Air?

watercooling is rather high maintenance. You should really consider sticking to air unless you want the absolute quietest build possible and you're sure you want to OC. Since your components arn't designed for a quiet system anyways, I'd say only watercool if you plan to do intense OCing.

Need help building a small, quiet PC

If you want to go even smaller, you could try the silverstone SG-01 evolution and the NT-06 cooler with it. However, it only takes 80mm fans, so you'd have to throw some nexus ones in there. I'd imagine it's slightly louder, but not by much. SLI might be hard to do in that case. I almost...

    radial bearings at 15000 rpm?

    I don't know how you got 6725 rpm... They're 1 inch wheels, which means 25.4mm diameter, which means 79.756mm circumference. 20 meters is 20 000mm. Make it 80 mm circumference to be simple, 2000/8 = 250. Since its 20m in 1 second, 250 x 60 = 15 000RPM.... is there something I'm doing wrong in my...

I just bricked my router. Ugh

Hey guys, I just bricked a router here, not much of a loss though since it was a crappy MN-700. 5+ hard resets a day needed. I was trying to put OpenWRT onto it, but alas I suck at soldering, and the iron wasn't the right one for the job. Anyways, long story short, I'm short 1 router. ATM, I...

    radial bearings at 15000 rpm?

well, this slot car racer runs on CO2 =/. There's no engine or anything, just a CO2 cartridge and a puncture. Its not .5mm, its 5mm. I was looking into those ceramic bearings galvanized, and it seems most of them I've come across are ceramic raceway, metal balls. The full ceramic bearings...

Has anyone here tried lapping their CPU's IHS?

Has anyone here tried lapping their CPU's IHS?

Hmm while i was looking for the vapour patent, I came across several other patents. The IHS is designed with a curve to compensate for the expansion of heating and cooling and for structural reasons. The patents are here: 6,848,172 and 7,102,226. I havn't found the vapour patent yet, but I'll...

    radial bearings at 15000 rpm?

    radial bearings at 15000 rpm?

Hey guys, I'm designing a slot car racer and it goes 20m in 1 second. That works out to roughly 15000rpm, so I'm wondering what kind of bearings would give me the least friction? The car weighs 55 grams and the axles are pretty thin, only 5mm in diameter. With such a low load, what kind...

Has anyone here tried lapping their CPU's IHS?

CPU IHSs are supposed to be concave. The chamber inside almost becomes a kind of heat pipe or phase change device. Intel has a patent out on the technology, someone has already mentioned it.

    Small Form Factor CPU Cooling

I take it this system is to be a server of sorts? The Ultra micro fly is probably the cheapest case you can get that's still half decent. I don't know if you can get both for $150. The corsair HX520 is probably the cheapest decent PSU I would touch. Give it a try, I think you'd be over 150...
