Upgrade Mid 2009 MBP or buy new?

As for the upgrade, I second upgrading the MacBook with an SSD. It would be the most dramatic upgrade to any computer system as the Hard Disk has always been the slowest piece of equipment in any computer.

Is it possible to get a sub $400 NOTEBOOK with decent graphics?

You are reading a dated article, the prices and performance is slightly different from about a year ago. You can most likely purchase something used/oldre tech for close to your maximal budget, yet somewhat powerful dedicated gfx card.

Whats Faster?

In this case, I wouldn't use the term "faster". It's more like, "where's the bottleneck"? The CPU will be equally as fast in both cases, but the chance the CPU would be idling wwating for data from both the Harddrive and RAM would be higher on the 1GB machine. To answer that question...

E6600 O/C Updated with PICS

Well, as they all say, you never can have too much memory. 4GB would be nice but for most setups, you wouldn't need more than 2GB.. Even a power user as myself running heavy graphic apps while multitasking, 2GB never had a hitch.. Unless you run a hosting environment like this forum 4GB...

what's a good and easy way (i'm talking bachelor-pad style) to spice up your MASHED POTATOES?

Well I recently tried using some Lemon Juice with some Club House "Roasted Garlic & Peppers" Spice, turned out great if you want a healthier topping rather than sour cream.. ...as toppings on your regular recipe : Butter, Milk, Salt & Potatoes

My E6600 overclocking results..

:Q Wow, 3.6Ghz a dud? That's a great overclock as it is with Air Cooling. I'm sure with water cooling, some serious lapping and more tweaking, this would be an awesome chip..

E6600 O/C Updated with PICS

Well go with Corsair XMS2 PC8000 if budget isn't a concern so it takes memory out of the overclocking equation. For the mobo either get the Gigabyte DQ6 or the Asus P5W DH mobo, and you should have quite a setup there for good overclocking. It all depends if you get a lucky chip of course :)...

E6400 Overclock,can someone take a look?

Make sure your Memory timings is 1:1 ratio so that your memory isn't overclocked like that (580), that way you can run the FSB up to 400FSB(which mine is running at 425 of course DDR2). Of course I have no idea what kind of features and memory ratios on that board, so I could be wrong.. Don't...

No, it will not cause problems since the bracket is made from plastic. It's completely non-conductive. Trust me, my heatsnk uses the same backing plate...

e600 p5w dh overclock

Not sure if this is related, but I had memory compatibility problems with the exact same OCZ modules that you have on my P5B. I was even running stock timings and speed and was still having memory test and Prime95 errors.

AT collective thoughts on CPU's

hmm.. hate to say downgrade, but why not go with a E6300 or E6400, get a Gigabyte DS3. Even at 3Ghz it'll trash any AMD setup even an FX-62! Of course people will argue that the 4MB cache would be bettter, but only at a sacrifice of 3-5% decrease in speed for the 2mb..the overclocking and...

Is that a thermal pad on the Core 2 Duo heatsink?

Yeah, remove the stock thermal pad, it'll hinder your performance if you have AS3. AS3 is still good stuff! Saw somewhere on an extensive review some years back that AS3 is not much different than AS5 (2-5% performance difference).. which is negliable for thermal compounds..

Best Stability test software for Core 2 Duo ... orthos or ...!?

If your old school, use Prime95 LOL Again, Orthos with Small FFTs & Memtest86 is probably the easiest to get running and most complete level of testing.

Nice OC! I guess I'm not too shabby with my results here, although 2 degrees hotter and higher vcore(yeah I set it ,and forgot it as well). Have you tried going higher? With your Scythe Infinity I'm sure you can get a better result than me. BTW, Which utlity are you using to monitor...

Which exact model is that? Because I can't seem to find your 6600, there is the FS-C77 as well as the CNPS9500 & CNPS7700 series... I'm not sure which one to go for at the moment since I'm not sure if the board is compatible and I'm not too fond of the 9500's price...
