I've got a computer which only has one video output -- DVI and I want to share it with my LCD monitor and my plasma TV, both of which work off the same cable if I switch it. I'd like to get some kind of splitter to allow the output to show on both the monitor and the TV at the same time. I've...
Thanks Naustica, that makes me feel better.
My cable would probably be around 2 feet (maybe a little less) and I do plan to run at 1600 x 1200 resolution.
Okay, if the GeForce FX 5200 may be problematic or unreliable with DVI, can someone recommend a good video card, not too expenseive, (ATI or other) for NON-GAMING use - basically 2-D usage for desktop publishing and graphics work to be used with these monitors. Thanks.
I've just ordered the 2001FP and am wondering if the NVIDIA GeForce FX 52001 128MB card that came in my Dell Dimension 8300 will be adequate for it (no gaming it all -- business and DTP work)? I plan on using the DVI connector. Would appreciate advice and information on this combo; settings etc...
No, I probably don't really have a need for BootVis, I think I leave it out for now. I'll go ahead and delete the trace.log file. Once again, thank you.
Well, it looks like this has fixed it! I used the regedit solution.
However, I noticed that had 2 other keys containing GlobalLogger
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\WMI\GlobalLogger\
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\WMI\GlobalLogger\
Both of these and the...
Thanks I will get to work on this. I can handle the regedit option, and will do that so I don't need to reinstall BootVis now.
I'll report back later.
And, PLEASE don't apologize -- you've been more help on this than anyone else.
Well, I can tell you that just uninstalling BootVis didn't do it, because I see my space going down again since I rebooted after doing that.
When you have a chance, please give me instructions as to what exactly to do with BootVis after I reinstall it. thank you.
To be honest with you, I uninstalled it because it wasn't really clear to me as to how to stop its monitoring of the system. I can certainly reinstall it if that's best, but I'll wait to hear back from you if I should do that, and then what I should set or unset in it to be sure it's stopped...
Thanks again. I have actually uninstalled Bootvis (and deleted the trace files) to be sure its totally gone. I'll report back a little later to see if its made a difference.
Yes, I have had "hide protected system files" unchecked as well as showing hidden files.
I will look into Bootvis (and dismantle it altogether). I have looked at Task Manager a number of times to try to find what causes this, but didn't find anything obvious to me (though I certainly don't know...
Thanks 8ballcoupe
I do have operating system files showing (system files and hidden files).
I have indeed used Bootvis -- no idea if it is misconfigured since I accepted its default configuration. If that is the cause, wouldn't all of the space be lost right after booting rather than...
GrumpyMan --
I thought of that, but I checked my system restore settings, and it is set to use up to 12% of the drive, and I am losing 80% of the drive (all of the free space).
I have a Dell Dimension 8300 system running Windows XP Professional where the system (boot) drive constantly loses space. This drive is 19GB and after booting has 16GB free. This drive is only used for system files, Windows and those things that insist on installing there. Programs are on a...
Okay, an update. I ran another full system virus scan, and the system is clean. I used a program that shows total sizes of all folders to compare folder (and file) sizes after a reboot, and later on.
I found that from yesterday afternoon when I booted and had 16GB free to this morning when I...

That is exactly the problem -- I have tried to find where the space is going, and do not see any siginificant changes in any of the folders to pinpoint it. I also have hidden and system files showing to help me look for it. And, I do not even have swap file on this volume -- it is...
I am going to run another full system check to be sure, but based on what I've already said, I doubt it (I also have Norton Anti-Virus auto-protect running all of the time).
I don't think its a virus, because I ran a full system virus scan Friday morning and the system was clean (and this problem was happening long before then).
I have a Dell Dimension 8300 system running Win XP Pro, and have a problem in that my System (boot) volume loses space so fast that I need to reboot several times a day. I have moved my temp folder and my print spooler destinations to a different drive, and I cannot find what grows so fast. I...
I have an external USB hard drive which I've been using for a number of weeks and it works fine. It used to appear normally in My Computer, but at some point it stopped showing there. If I go to My Computer - Manage - Storage - Disk Management the drive shows normally, and I can right click on...
I have purchased this internal USB card reader. It has a cable with rectangular connectors with 9 pins holes (4 x 5) on it, one end connects to the reader, the other end connects to a 9 pin connector (for a J3 connection?) on the motherboard.
Since my motherboard doesn't have a port to plug...

The second rebate showed up at the new OfficeMax rebate tracking center (powered by Parago but doesn't show at main Parago link rebateshq.com) --- www.maxmyrebates.com

The online rebate form for the Cendyne does not mention need to register it. Last time this happened with a different item, I didn't register it, and when Parago denied the rebate for not registering, I just called and told them that the online submission form didn't mention...
Thanks. There's also a $50 off $250 OM coupon around. I just ordered one. Unfortunately, I have to pay sales tax, but will at least get 3% of it back from Ebates eventually.
I've also ordered a Toshiba e310 from Amazon ($239 after rebates).
I'm going to keep one and sell the other. Which...
HuzorDaddy,
Yes, I received confirmation on the $30 Peachtree upgrade (rebateshq.com). It shows as received on 9/19/02 and valid in final stages of processing.
I did not send it in until I saw the $165 Staples Peachtree rebate posted as valid and in final stages of processing (I received that...
It seems that it is no longer possible to reach a live person via the Parago rebate center phone numbers.
I have a problem with a $30 rebate for a Cendyne CD-RW drive (purchased at Office Max). When it was first submitted, they recorded it for a different item, causing it to be rejected as...

I don't know what the difference is, but I can tell you that I tried numerous times holding down F8 and nothing happened -- each time I tried with tapping it, it worked!
FoBot --
Thanks. I realized from that link that I had been holding down F8 (as I read elsewhere). This said to tap it constantly during the boot. That did the trick.
I know about MSCONFIG and choosing a bootmode, but I wanted to be sure I could get into Safe Mode without having to first set it...
I am unable to start my either my WinXP Pro system or my WinXP Home system in Safe Mode (can't get to any of the start up options) because I never get the "Please select the operating system to start" prompt. I try pressing F8 throughout boot process and nothing works.
Does anyone know how to...
I'm looking for a PCI Video card to put into a 5 year old Dell Pentium Pro 200 system now running Windows 98SE. The system came with a Number Nine Imagine 128 card, but its not compatible with the games my kids want to run (in terms of 3D acceleration or something like that). I'll consider a...
