Thoughts on GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P board ?

It's the DDR3-1333 10666. This is the link to it at the egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231189. It was $20 cheaper a set when I ordered, but prices fluctuate.

    Anyone Use an Antec 300?

Very nice case. Used one for a build for my dear wife (PII X3 710) and it works fine with just the stock fans on low. I really liked the layout of the case, my first with a PSU on the bottom. Ample space to "hide" extra cables (although a few holes punched through the sheet metal would've made...

Undervolting Ph II 940, what is your lowest stable voltage?

Cool. I've just been experimenting with this today on my 955BE. Currently I've been running all day at 1.250v and throwing load and it and it's working just fine. Might try to drop it down to 1.225v and see if it'll run there. Mainly I was doing this to drop CPU temps as i'm running the...

What 120mm fans should I get?

I just replaced some Antec tri-cools (2) in my case. Added this to the rear as an exhaust: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835185005 and this to the front as an intake: http://www.svc.com/d12sl-12bl.html. Believe the Nexus is basically a Yate Loon. Anyway, these fans are a lot...

Thoughts on GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P board ?

I have built two machines with this board. Let me see if I can help some... 1) Other boards have more features than this board such as support for Crossfire, more RAID levels than this board, and, depending on the board, integrated graphics. 2) Issue with memory is misleading. For...

    Silent 120mm Case Fans

This is right on based on my experience. Replaced the Antec Tri-cool fan running on low in the back of my case with an Scythe S-Flex E mounted with rubber grommets and the noise reduction was quite noticeable while temps dropped 1C (a freebie as I was hoping for the same temps and less noise).

    What memory for MA770T-UD3P ?

I've had good luck with 2 sets of this ram on that board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231189. However, I am running it at stock so I can't comment regarding overclocking. That set is on the approved list for the board at Gigabytes' site.

    X3 710 $99 @ Newegg

It's a good chip. Just put one in a build for my wife. They had a nice combo with a Gigabyte Radeon HD4350 w/ 512 for $88.99 after rebates and combo discounts... Chip is quick and she noticed a significant difference compared to her old 2.0 gigahertz single core P4. If you overclock, for $20...

    Final Build-Last Check

Nice build. I can vouch that the motherboard, chip and RAM combo will work fine (see my sig). Built two systems with that board, works great. On the Power supply I tend to go get more than I probably need... That said, I'd probably spend the extra $20 or $25 for a high quality 750 watt ps to go...

Am I the only one who like the old standard (4:3)?

I have two of the Samsung 204B's OP referenced and I prefer 4:3. I've had widescreen laptops for the last few years at work now, but when I had a chance to buy an upgraded laptop of my own, I went 4:3 again (Thinkpad X61). Voted 4:3 as I agree the widescreen is awkward to me.

    Phenom ll 550 BE coming, I need a motherboard/ram

Unlocking of cores aside, I've built two systems on this Gigbyte board - GA-MA770T-UD3P. It's a very nice board for the money. Easy to work with, quality components and works great with Ubuntu. They've both been rock solid without a single issue - highly recommended if you don't need RAID 5 or...

What's the best bang for buck coming from a Opt. 165 @2.7?

Biggest difference is the chipset (south bridge, 750 vs 710; 790x vs 770t nb), DD2 vs DDR3 and the additional PCIe 16 slot. Both have BIOS support for ACC - so either should be able to unlock the 2 cores on a BE if you are lucky enough to get a good one. Also, if you are comparing the two by the...

What's the best bang for buck coming from a Opt. 165 @2.7?

Was just going to say the GA-MA770T-UD3P mentioned above is a DDR3 board, so you'd have needed different RAM, but looks like you've gone the 790X route. I've built a second system for my wife with the MA770T-UD3P board and I really do recommend it if you aren't going to use 2 video cards...

What's the best bang for buck coming from a Opt. 165 @2.7?

Just did the same upgrade basically except I sold my Opteron 185 and matching 4 gig of OCZ Platinum DDR400 RAM. Went with the machine in my sig and am happy with it. I really looked closely at the Core i7, but I decided to go with the 955BE instead because, at the time, the Intel set would've...

Deciding whether to learn Solaris or continue with FreeBSD

I think Solaris will be around for a while and I think Oracle will invest in it as well. They said 40% of the Oracle DB installed base is on Solaris so they get to double dip that maintenance stream, which I'm sure they'll love... Solaris x86 has made a lot of strides lately with 2008.11 and...

Do you think a wireless mouse is worth it for a laptop?

    Lenovo ThinkCentre A62-9935

Actually I don't think it's that bad a deal when you consider the 3 year onsite warranty that is included in the price... I've owned an IBM ThinkCentre before, bought it for my wife. She came home, turned it on, surfed the web, worked great for years. No issues, dead quiet. No upgrade...

    POLL: X4 955 vs. Q9*50

LOL I hear you. I was very tempted to buy a Lenovo ThinkStation S10 workstation (I have a friends and family IBM account) - with the XEON W3520 (basically the i7 920) with 12 gn of RAM. Was seriously tempted to buy a real, honest to goodness workstation instead of building one... but at the end...

    POLL: X4 955 vs. Q9*50

Yes, I agree. I had been considering an Intel Core i7 setup, but with a descent board (I was looking at the ASUS P6T SE), triple channel ram + the CPU it was $580 or so plus any shipping charges. As it was, the parts I did buy were $398 total. I was unwilling to pay the additional 45% difference...

    POLL: X4 955 vs. Q9*50

I just assembled a new system yesterday with the same components as you except I went with the Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P board you referenced above as the cheapest. I don't game so I don't need crossfire. Other than that, I've been very impressed with the board - on benchmarks from the review at...

With my personal Thinkpad I do light traveling, for example, to the local java users group, coffee shop, infrequently to work, etc. However, I do have a work issued thinkpad (t60) as well and I lug that around every day and take it with me on out of town trips with no issues. Hope that helps...
