PSU: Safe operating voltages?

ATX specs allow +/- 5%, so 12V you can be save between 11.4-12.6V. 5V means 4.75-5.25 and 3.3 means 3.15-3.45. But this means in worst case scenario, which usually includes high power transitions (like 20W to 100W in 1ms on one line). Oh, and for 3.3V, is it 1.30V or 3.30V? 1.3V is VERY bad...

Boot drive - Larger size faster?

You cannot increase a drives speed without mechanical changes. If you compare 3 years ago 80G HDDs with todays 80GB HDDs, if they have the same platter densities and spinning speed, you will not see much improvement. The only difference could be access time with improved head mechanics. But...

I have a general (I hope) RAM question

The problem with 4 sticks relates to the memory bus. In dual-channel mode, there are 2 memory channels (dooh!). If you use 4 sticks, each channel has to deal with 2 sticks. So these 2 sticks will be connected to the SAME bus lines, which degrades the electrical signals. I personally had a...
