i solved the problem. It was a bad dvd drive. The reader was messed up i supposed. I solved the problem by swapping out an older dvd drive and running the win xp installation. It took 10-15 min tops. Off and running. Rma'd the bad dvd drive back to newegg.

i did a clean install on a computer i just built and it took several hours last night to do the blue screen install of setup files. then it took around 3 or 4 hours to do windows setup instalation. Then after it was all done, the computer cpu usage was hovering around 100%. so i thought...
that says upgrade on the box, as well as, the ad. Also it says regular price $99. Sounds and looks like an upgrade version to me. Not a new clean install ..
it says that if you use an aftermarket heatsink on the processor that you will be voiding the warranty. Is there any way for them to tell what heatsink/fan you are using? seems to me that you just put the heatsink ontop of the processor and they couldnt possibly tell how or which heatsink fan...
so which cd/dvd rom drives are good? also what do you look for, when choosing a cd/dvd rom? If I were using it to read game discs, etc., would i be looking for something thats "xx" fast or reads well, etc?
i picked up 2 AMDx2 4200+ combos for 357 each out the door. Not bad since the processor is about that much. Now to ebay or sell the mobos. If anyone wants an ecs K8T890-A 939 Socket mobo for like $40 bucks, hit me up. they are $70+. its sealed and new. :) good hunting at frys!
