For anybody looking for some serious optimization, I would recommend reading this. It talks about the Sieve of Erasthones and the Sieve of Atkin and a few other primality tests.
For all of you programmers, check out Project Euler and see if you can figure out some of the math problems on there. It gets quite addicting, actually. I've been using Python, which I'm new at, and have managed to solve 5 so far today.
My friend told me about them a while back. I've only heard In Absentia, but I agree that they are amazing and it's a shame that more people don't know of them.
