Gaming with lower resolution on "retina" screen - experiences?

Sure, but with high enough resolution the screen would be able to deal with any resolution without visible artefacts similar to how a good printer can deal with vector graphics. So my question is really if 230 PPI is sufficient for normal viewing distances and the answer seem to be a clear no...

Great reply. Especially that you mentioning that scaling is visible when running at 1920x1080 since I assume it's a common resolution to aim for. What games have you tried? What about lower resolutions than 1600x900?

Friend bought used 2010 laptop for $275 since new laptops are now junk ?!

Not all of them, most were sold with quite bad TN-panels. The much better IPS screen was a CTO option and quite rare. So make sure you get what you're looking for. They unfortunately also seem to fetch much higher prices as compared to their TN siblings.

The sweet spot for used machines seem to be first or second generation i-processors from the high-end series. Still faster than modern budget machines, but with better build quality. Use DDR3 RAM and support 8-16 GB. Battery life may suffer, and weight may also be an issue. But when choosing...

A quick look at shopping.com tells us that a laptop (Dell B130) can be had for less than $500 these days. Sure it's lowend (Celeron 1.3, 40GB, 512MB and CD-RW/DVD) but it's still a complete laptop with XP home and a one year warranty. Imagine we remove the keyboard ($10?), the battery ($20?)...

How big was your 1st hard drive...

It was a 20 MB drive. The computer was a a 16 MHz 286 with a whopping 3 MB of RAM. Made by Victor and the case was much smaller than todays mini-towers and close to silent.

Why does nvidia have so many video cards?

Maybe I'm paranoid, but it may also have something to do with overwhelming the customer with information. Imagine both ATI and nVIDIA sold three different chips each. It would be easy to get an overview of all the offerings. But by offering 12-15 different kind of chips the customer may think...

Is anyone else unimpressed with the way Vista looks so far?
