I'm not comfortable with the assumption that Zen will be a lot more afforable than Intel offerings. If you guys were around during the Athlon XP and Athlon 64 era, AMD charged according for them. AMD is not running a charity.
I see the same mistaken assumption before the launch of RX 480...
IDF16 San Francisco is coming up real soon, so I would suggest waiting till then to see if Intel announces any more details about Kaby Lake.
FWIW I'm in the same situation as you.
Hi guys. I'm looking to buy a 750Ti and performance per watt is my priority. I'm looking to squeeze even more P/W out of the 750Ti by undervolting it, however after my voltage locked Sapphire 7850 I have wised up and realized that not all cards can be undervolted. So I would be very grateful if...
You are assuming that AMD management is totally rational. History has shown that some of the brightest people in the way can act very irrationally sometimes.
Personally, I can't help but think that Llano is a sort of backup plan should Bulldozer suck. Why didn't they use Bulldozer cores in...
I agree. From the get-go, I have always doubted that AMD's FX cores are comparable to Intel's SnB cores. To cram that many into a viable TDP, I think they would have to be weaker than what Intel could cram.
That said, it doesn't mean that AMD couldn't pull of some magic.
Man, Bulldozer is...
Ivy Bridge, with a 22nm die shrink might deliver hexa-cores. More (8-12) might take a bit longer.
I suffer from the psychological thing as well. AMD's 8-core marketing has gotten to me, even though I'm aware of the possibility that each of these 8 cores might not be comparable to each of...
drizek, I hope you won't mind me posting here because I'm in mostly the same situation as you.
The difference between me and you is that I need a new PC sooner rather than later. My PC is used for video encoding; It's currently a Phenom II 955, and I have been putting off my workload (which...
My first PC was an Acer Pentium 133. It costed $4888 Singapore dollars, which is probably around $3000ish US Dollars. Not sure what that amount would be worth today.
It's amazing not just how much prices have gone down over the years, but also how much more powerful things are now, relative...
Thanks for the help guys. The reason I'm asking is that the 4870 and GTX 260 are pretty evenly matched in terms of price and gaming performance, so I'm looking to value-added extras to help tip the balance. Folding@Home was one thing, video transcoding is another I do alot of. And it seems like...
Thank you for the reply, that was very helpful.
I remember nVidia announced in a preview of the GTX 200 that it will be 2 to 3 times faster than the 48x0 series. Guess they weren't joking.
Do you think its possible that the GPU2 code isn't really optimized for the 48x0 series yet? Given...
Hello there people. I searched for this on Google, but couldn't find anything relevant. I'm about to buy a new Graphics Card, and my question is are the 48x0 series for the GTX 200 series faster when it comes to folding? Or is it impossible to tell for sure because every work unit provides a...
