Which S939 dual core + motherboard?

I´ve got 2x1GB of cl3 ram, so I think S939 will offer me best value for money. I´m going to use my rig as a multimedia work station for me and my wife. I read that the MSI K8NGM2-FID is probably the best for S939 out there, but I don´t know if I should get the 3800+ or a faster cpu...

Possible to get by without a case?

Well it´s just that I dislike cases and would like to do something creative with the rig, like fix it on the wall or something.

Thanks guys! This sounds simple. I still have to order my rig and I´m going to try if this doesn´t work with a screwdriver. This sounds pretty easy.

Possible to get by without a case?

I´m going to build an AMD rig and I would like to skip the case if it´s possible, but I don´t know how I could turn on the computer without it. Does anybody know how to or any experience with not using a case?

Quadro versus GeForce

The consensus is that if money is no issue and you are making money from your design, then a quadro is nice, but for 99% of users a Geforce does the job pretty nicely. The difference between the Geforces and Quadros are pretty much only the drivers and the Quadros perform better in Opengl...

Don´t you just love cutting edge technology?

This legacy garbage is now 5 year old and where is the replacement? Delayed again "until it´s ready" !!! And yeah, it will have even more overhead than XP so smaller part of the hardware power goes into your work.... and we will still have all these lovely viruses etc! You know, I´ve tried...

ES vs retail chips?

AMD's price drops have been a success so far...

I did see a wendor in Germany saying that the conroes will be available 14th of September... AMD mobos are also quite cheaper than those for the Conroes, so the total costs for a Conroe system is quite higher. Yea, Conroe is faster, but so is like Mercedes compared to Toyota...and more...

Socket 939 ram question

Thanks. I´m just wondering if it´s worth it to use such a ram like this and whether it is likely to slow down the system. The alternative would be getting an X2 socket system (for the same price as the 939) and then buy a new memory and keep the old in the Mac. If I didn´t have this ram...

Thanks for your reply. I digged up my ram in the Mac and found out that on the base is written "Transcend" and on these little grey things on the ram (8 on each side) is written Infineon and this serial: infineon HYB250512800BE--5 Does anybody have a clue on whether it is smart to use this...

Good AMD2 or Conroe o/c board?

Hi there, I´m going to build but I haven´t decided whether to go low end conroe or AMD2. The x2 3800+ is around 50 euros cheaper than the cheapest conroe, but I have no knowledge on the mainboards. Are good o/c boards for these chips similarly priced and what models do you recommend...

Recommended monitors/LCDs for graphic design

Look at the S-IPS panels. There are types like NEC 2090uxi and also cheaper options. I saw Philips 200W6 20" widescreen S-IPS monitor for only 360 euros in German stores today.

Or Eizo could just get them for less than the S-IPS? Eizo like other companies are not in the market to make the absolutely best monitors, but make them cheap and sell expensive. The Flexscans are just consumer monitors with a high end name IMO. If people think that there are better panels...

Consumer-oriented LED backlight TFTs to arrive soon

How soon? I always thought the DVI (8 bit) was the bottleneck not the panel itself. Therefore higher end monitors like the 12 bit NECs don´t perform heaps and bounds better than the 8 bit panels. The extra bits just free them from color banding etc.

4x4, when?

When AMD launced this 4x4, the mobo manufacturers hadn´t even heard about it, so I guess it will take some time to get the mobos out. But I hope it will be out late July, because I need a new rig at that time.

NECs are up to the same standard as the Eizo´s, at least when you compare equally priced monitors. At least, NECs are good enough and I haven´t noticed many complaints about their performance.
