anyway to build a gaming computer for $450?

I see 2 ways to go here, and both have compromises. The first will allow you to slip in a Conroe (or Quad) later for much better performance at a low upgrade price. The second is MUCH faster today for gamers but is a relative dead-end. $456 Gaming CPUMobo/Ram/Video? Good Upgrade potential...

Well, not exactly. The 680i supports 1333fsb. Why not stick with a Gigabyte S3/DS3. It seems to fit your needs well at a good price.

Bad Ram or what?

Your ram and cpu are fine, otherwise you would be complaining of system crashes or no boot conditions. This is probably either a software issue, or a bloated windows install. One thing to check is if you have enough ram. Open Task Manager again and see if your peak commit charge exceeds total...

PSU Recomendations

Starting with the 2nd question first, this would be a huge performance increase. BUT...WHY are you crippling this upgrade with that AsRock mobo? You are not trying to carry over your old AGP card AND you are buying new ram. Why not buy a fast mobo with 4 DDR2 slots and PCI-E 16 video instead...

Dell gets AMD starting tomorrow

This is a good "foot in the door" for AMD since they benefit from the increased sales, especially since with ATI they should try to make progress in the integrated/budget market that Intel owns.

Who makes the most reliable hard drives?

Need help building a good gaming computer!

I agree with raildogg, his list is about the best you can do building your own for the money. If you buy a Dell you're stuck with it until you throw it away. A mobo with 6150 integrated graphics will play games "good" and can be expanded anytime.

Anyone able to tell me the difference between these two ram ypes?

Call them and ask. It looks like you get 1GB, and if you want 2GB total memory it's only $70 more. Usually the term "shared" memory applies to integrated graphics taking a bite out of the main memory.

Improper Heatsink Installation?

Usually temps will go up a little because too much thermal compound was applied. It also could be that the originally smooth HSF bottom got nicked by setting it down on something. The temps you cite are not alarming, but you should be able to get back to where you started.

AMD Socket AM2 has a secret weapon (inq story btw)

The reference to "reverse hyperthreading" that I've seen looks at AMD's long-term plans, not near term. I think that if this was available today it would require OS and also probably BIOS support. For a CPU to allocate its own resources like this on the fly would be pretty amazing! I think...

The Tech support person says the voltage is different. The posts in this forum say the pinouts are different. Both are trying to say the same thing. Both agree that unless you buy the Dell specific psu you will fry your mobo. How hard is this to understand? Buy the 410 and don't even ask...

At .89:1 we're talking $712. The items you mentioned are actually cheaper today than even last week! CPU $114 Mobos as you say can be had for less RAM $160 for 2GB... This is a good list!

This may sound strange, but here goes... First off, multitasking a single core cpu will of course be sluggish. Games that run slowly usually need a gpu upgrade. With Conroe coming out, AM2 just released and prices going nutty over the last week, I would spend some time cleaning...
