The *Official* MSI K8NGM2-FID GeForce 6150 Motherboard Thread

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I haven't had a chance to check the forum in a couple days. I've had problems in the past with certain boot CDs and DVDs in the past on the MSI board. They work fine with my other PC, but they would either not boot up at all or would start and then lock up. Some...

I had the same type of problem as you and it drove me nutz. What did the trick for me was using version 8.22 of Nvidia's chipset drivers. You can find these drivers at: ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/nForce/standalone/430_410/ I would recommend to do another clean install and use these...

Well, I finally went through the installation of Vista RC1. The installation went error free and after about 20-30 minutes, I was at the desktop. First, I went to the device manager to see what still needed drivers. The only things that needed a driver was the remote reciever for my Firefly...

Just a heads up.... I haven't gotten as far as installing it yet, but it looks like I'll finally be able to install the RC1 build of Vista (that is build 5600). One of the main problems I've always had was getting it to install on the RAID. Now, without even using a floppy, setup recognizes...

Just like MSI, the best place to go for info is Foxconn's Global site. There I found the manual, BIOS, drivers, etc. There is a SPDIF header on the board, but it is 4 pins across instead of 3. The manual says nothing about the SPDIF connector being optional. It could be possible that this...

Looks like the Foxconn board has all the features the MSI board has except for the firewire. There is one thing I noticed I like about the Foxconn board. The PCI Express X1 slot is below the PCI Express X16 slot. I recently got Gigabyte's 7600GT with the silent heat pipe cooler and...

@batorok Ethernet problem: The ethernet always worked fine for me. You should be able to install the Nforce drivers which include the IDE, ethernet, and other misc drivers. Follow the order that the first post provides when installing the drivers. Setting up RAID: To set up an array, you...

On your SATA drive, there should be a jumper to limit it to 1.5. Try doing that. Some in this thread have mentioned problems trying to run the full SATA II 3.0. Just trying to help out. I know how much of a hassle it is going through an RMA.

WOW. What type of applications are you using that you would want 4gig+ of memory?? I would think that if you would want to run that much memory, you should probably look more in the server class of motherboards.

This is actually the same type of problem I had with my board. Though it first happened to me when I moved from one computer case to another. I was starting to think that I messed something out. Like you, my memory kept showing up with errors and Windows was quirky and crashing all the time...

Since the MSI version with the AM2 socket is seeming not available here in the USA, the next best thing would be Asus's version. http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1138&l1=3&l2=101&l3=296 Newegg has this listed for about $90 including shipping. Not overly bad IMHO...

@chinna If your main use from the PC is as a media center, the stock heatsink on the NB should be just fine. If you do quite a bit of gaming, then a fan would help, but then you're probably better off getting a video card anyways. Just wanted to also put my opinion in on using C N' Q while...

I am using a matched pair of Patriot 1GB sticks in the Dimm1 & Dimm2 slot. It always defaulted to dual channel mode for me. The memory itself is actually running at stock speeds. I followed the overclocking tips on the front page of this forum and I turned down the Memclock value and then turned...

I don't see why not. My opteron 170 does 2.4Ghz easily and I only use PC3200. Even with the overclocking, the processor never goes over 45C under load. Gotta luv them optys.

I don't think that price was much of a concern adding a fan to the SB. This is popular board among the HTPC crowd which, like Mahoney mentioned, wants as silent of a PC as possible. Small fans don't create a lot of noise, but it is noise none the less. I've had my MSI board for about 6 months...

Originally, I ran a pair of Western Digital 3200KS hard drives running RAID 0 at the 3.0GB/s and Windows XP, MCE, etc all installed fine on it. Now I added a pair of Seagate 7200.10 (took jumper out for 3.0GB/s mode) and have all 4 in a RAID 5. Other than one small problem (see post above), I...

I never checked to see if NCQ was enabled, but from what I've read in this forum, NCQ is enabled by default in the newer driver versions. So that could've been the problem. The drives I'm using are 2xWD 3200KS and 2xSeagate 7200.10. I know you should really use 4 identical drives, but I got a...

I'm curious about other people's experiences with Nvidia drivers on this motherboard. Since I've gotten my board, I've mainly used the 8.22 drivers. I tried using the 8.25 drivers from MSI's website, but I was getting random errors in Windows and general instability. Recently, I added 2 more...
