Well, I got some good results, but a little puzzling.
I had tested coreavc some time ago and found only a few % drop. Went back to ffdshow since I could handle subtitles better with it.
So I oc'd to 11x230=2.53 and there was only a little change on my "problem" MKV file. Then I changed...
Question about video cards:
My 1080p(?) DLP won't accept a 1080p input, so I use component. Been using a 7300LE and the PQ is great.
But with a X2-4200+, 1080p MKVs are problematic. Lower bit rate ones are OK.
So would a ATI-3470 be a good solution? Does the UVD feature apply to...
Google around and you will find CnQ is supported in Vista Power Management. You do have to manually configure it.
I don't remember if fans are included. Would speedfan work on them?
h264 plays good using WMP11 and coreavc codec on my X2-3800, 84.21, outputting 1216x684. But I think it might vary with the bit rates of the source material.
Speefan also shows the NB temp. At least using the config file I imported from almico.com.
41^C on mine. But the info screen says the chipset is nvidia 410, while the actual SB is 430.
[edit] Unplugged the fan on the NB and temps didn't change. So speedfan isn't monitoring it.
Dunno. Pinouts in manual are standard. Somebody early in thread said a couple of them were swapped. I tried that too w/o success.
Wrote to MSI and their response used English words but was not understandable.
Gave up and went usb-serial.
I know a standard serial port connected to the mobo header doesn't work.
Easier to just get this for $14:

The XFX 7600GS is compatible.
For Vista, it increases the desktop (aero) index from 3.4 to 4.5 and the 3D gaming
index from 3.0 to 4.7
Currently on sale at buy.com for $50 AR&GCO
Yahoo messenger works with the onboard sound, sort of. I control the volume with a knob on the speakers.
However, the microphone input is awful. There is no way to stop internal feedback, even using headphones. Others reported this on the newegg comments. Since I often use YM, I stuck a...
Rfan, I occasionally have the same symptoms, including the sound in a loop.
My system is much different with only MCE in common.
Funny thing is although the system appears locked up, recording in the background continues on.
Blimey, you only need to add a fan on the current heatsink. 40mm fans are fine, just orient them 45 degrees off square with a dab of epoxy or something. 1000+ rpm is fine (and noiseless).
It wouldn't hurt to remove the heatsink and put some paste on the chip also. And fastening it with...
Recording doesn't use any graphics. It doesn't use much else either.
Playback is another matter. If you use software decoding, that can load both the CPU and GPU.
Try just recording the three streams w/o playing anything. Then see if the HD plays OK.
I can record two HD streams and...
Comdw, I have read about occasional problems with certain mobo/psu combos caused by the psu not sensing enough load on a particular rail to start.
Don't know if that's the case here, but you did good in substituting. You could try adding some load to see; just plug some spare molexes into...
Guppyman, when you say you've built before with no issues, do you mean with the exact same hardware?
My only thought is if the bios won't boot until you unplug something it looks like a power problem.
Chinna, I agree about the the NB heatsink. The new Foxconn board has a bigger one and it seems to be more securely mounted.
I took the sink off mine and found no thermal paste there. I also replaced the nylon/flimsy springs with some 4-40 x .5" bolts to make better contact. Then stuck a...
I want to trade with somebody who needs the "newish" audio bracket with the spdif coax and has the "oldish" serial port bracket.
If that's you, please PM me before noon Fri ET.
I can't help with your not going into S3 now, but I can confirm that S3 works fine even when installing the OS with bios=S1. As you noted, the registry patch is only needed for MCE resume by remote. BTW, I use a WD sata1 drive.
Try unchecking 'enable hibernation' in power management.
Has anybody been able to use a voice app (yahoo, messenger, etc) with the onboard sound?
I noticed a newegg reviewer said it didn't work, and I also can't get it working. There is feedback even when using a headset, so it seems the mixer isn't working right.
Or maybe I don't have it...
That Foxcon board has a few nice features. The bios has more voltage options than the MSI one and the chipset heatsinks look much better. And the slot locations as subcodec said.
Minuses are no 1394 port (header is there) and can't tell if there is a spdif header. Manual not avail yet on...
That Arctic cooler looks like it will fit. The fan will be over the memory. Scaling off the drawing on Arctic's website, there is a clearance of about 1.6". Memory is about 1.3" high.
About the S3/STR thingy, I've gone thru the whole thread and can't find any ref to the "registry tweak if bios not set to S3 during OS install".
I also couldn't find any google/alltheweb solution except for some changes to HKLM/CCS/USB in the win98 registry. BTW, alltheweb was a much better...
I just got this board and here's an update on what now comes in the box.
1. the video bracket (as before)
2. a new sound bracket; has the three surround plugs + spdif
3. a two port usb bracket. 6 total now.
No more serial bracket.
I'm trying to figure out whether a 939 X2 chip is worth the expense when just running older programs.
As an example, say I have a lot of programs running, none of which are using much CPU. Then I start a video encoding (tmpgenc) which uses 99% and then also start a par2 repair of an archive...
