Use the same SSID as it'll be part of the same network and will allow you to easily roam from one AP to the other. As for which channel, use whatever channel is the least congested in the area you are using it in.

Anybody use boots when you assemble your own cat5 cable?

Yeah, they make it harder to get the cable back out of the NIC when you want to remove it as you have to push on the rubber boot which then pushes on the clip and is often harder than if it was just the bare clip. I suppose you could use them to designate different purposes with different...

When will we be rid of Hard Disks?

I don't think that Hard Disks will be going away any time soon, especially when companies like Seagate are currently working on putting a Terabyte on a harddrive platter and other techniques like warhorse mentioned in the previous post.

I voted No. All the reports I've read have called it a "planetoid". It's big enough not to be "debris", but too small to be a "planet", so it's a "planetoid". Link to the FOXNews story.

Also with the glass screen on a CRT screen you get all sorts of reflections from objects and light sources around the monitor which you don't get off a TFT screen which can also add to eye strain.

If you're having problems making youself a boot disk, try http://www.bootdisk.com/. You can download all kinds of boot disks from there including ones that have minimal setups for flashing your BIOS.

I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to do it. Set up a share on your ME PC that shares the Printer with the network then connect the apple to the shared printer (assuming your PC and fruit are networked together).

Creating an open, public WLAN?

You could possibly alleviate this problem by requring your users to register their MAC addresses with you before allowing them to use your network and only allowing registered MAC addresses to use your WLAN, thus, you'd know who each MAC belonged to and stop people from using fake/changed MAC...

PCI/AGP BIOS issue

Just fixed basically the same problem on a mates PC last night. The fix.... re-seat the CPU, it mustn't have been in the socket quite right. Took it out, put it back in again and it all fired up nicely.

Does the Ethernet adaptor appear in Device Manager? Try deleteing it from Device Manager, rebooting and letting the OS redetect and reinstall it.

Saving and burning Xp patches and hotfixes....

You can also "slipstream" the service pack and hotfixes into a bootable installation CD for when you do a reinstall to save you downloading and applying them all over again. There is a WINCDMAN utility that helps in creating the slipstream CD.

AGP/PCI setting in BIOS

This thread should probably be in the Motherboards area rather than Highly Technical. I've seen this happen on a couple of Biostar board before. You may need to clear the CMOS a few times and then it should work OK.

Try re-terminating your cabling to the 586B standard instead of 586A. All our cabling here at work is done to the B standard and passes the PentaScanner tests fine.

Sounds like you need a PentaScanner. If you've only used Cat5 cabling, you're unlikely to be able to run Gigabit Ethernet reliably. For that, you'd need at least Cat5e or Cat6. As for why your cabling only works some times and not others, you could have screwed up the cable pairing on the...

You can buy a docking station for most decent brand laptops. A lot of the docking stations can have a PCI card installed in them. Might be an easier and cheaper option if you can use it.

ms intellimouse explorer usb probs

I've had two of these mice do similar things. The wires that go in to the mouse seem to get busted internally and will stop working at certain angles. Best to try to get a waranty replacement on it before it dies completely. (I threw my last one in the bin and purchased a wireless one instead).

Command for pulling a compressed DOS file from Disk?

I assume you have a disk that has smartdrv.ex_ on it and want to uncompress it to smartdrv.exe. You'll need to use the EXPAND command. EXPAND A:\smartdrv.ex_ c:\
