I think the Wii U looks interesting and has incredible potential. I liked the concepts that were shown in the promo video. As with any console, though, we'll have to wait and see what kind of content is available for the system.
I mean I do get it. I realize mainstream press are there and hopefully will help to hype it to the masses, but again, most of the people actually at the press conference want to see more.
I just don't get it. The majority of people in the target audience for the Kinect stuff are not at E3, and probably don't even know it exists. Why not announce Cloud storage, beacons, etc. during the press conference?
They had some that were available this weekend but the free period ended at the end of the day yesterday. Ghostbusters, Bad Boys and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within were available.
Search could be pretty useful actually, instead of having to wade through the convoluted layers of menus. If I know what I want I shouldn't have to spend 5 minutes getting to it. Of course, it could take just as long to type it in. :)
For what it's worth, I've found GameSpot's stream to be the most 'current' in the past. We'll see if that's the case this year.

Oh right, I forgot about that. Well, I don't think Kojima likes (or recognizes) the NES games anyway so I wouldn't expect to see them included regardless of licensing issues.
I don't know anything about rights but the original Metal Gear games (Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake) were released for the PS2 previously as part of MGS3 Subsistence and as part of the Metal Gear Solid 20th Anniversary: Metal Gear Solid Collection that was released in Japan.
Konami announced HD collections for Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders during their (pre-recorded) pre-E3 press conference last night.
MGS collection includes 2, 3 and Peace Walker and will release in November.
Zone of the Enders collection includes ZoE 1 and 2 and will release in 2012...
