My weapon of choice for thermal paste removal is a thick paper towel (one that won't leave flecks of paper all over your parts) dipped in rubbing alcohol. If it's a seriously bad case and that won't work try a product called Goo Gone, it's an orange liquid that comes in a spray bottle.
