Hi, What sort of performance gain should I expect when upgrading from my current R9 270X to a R9 390? I don't plan to go above 1080p for my gaming needs. JC3 is the game I am planning to upgrade for. I have a feeling that 270X should suffice...(as I am keeping my expectations to about 30 fps...

If it's the blue screen error that you are getting at the start of XP installation, you need to change the setting in bios (AHCI to IDE....that's what worked for me.)....but I think you might have already tried that. If you are giving it another try let me know if you have any luck.

Thanks...but the crazy thing is that barring the gfx card price the rest of the components seem fairly comparable...(there is some difference but not much). 270X price here is around 300 US $ while 280X is around 420. Plus all I can install is a gfx card...I am not at all comfortable with...

Thanks. My PSU was having some issues so I recently changed to 700W CoolerMaster with a CM case...so I think I am good there. I have a 1 TB drive. The components that require an upgrade would be CPU/MB/RAM/GFX Card & Monitor....that's pretty much the everything that's significant for gaming :-)...

noob question. I have HL2 installed (from DVD) on a desktop which is not connected to the net. I am asuming that when I installed HL2 the Source SDK 2007 got installed alongside, so all I need to do now is run the Black Mesa setup (from the 3 files that I am dlding) and I am good to go.right?

shadows in some older games

The shadows worked just fine on my Ti 4200 back then but I could NEVER get them on 7900G and more recently on HD 4850. I am sure someone can shed some light and provide a workable solution.

I beat trine 2 last night

Almost to the last levels (Ice Castle or something). . . . Wonderful game . . .no doubt. . . but I have a slight niggle. The gfx in comparison to trine1 are truely bumped up with LOTS of background stuff going on, but I was overwelmed with the assault on my eyes on literally ALL the levels...

Thank's for all your input's people. Got the HDMI cable last friday and I DID see a HUGE difference going from av to HDMI. Couldnt stop playing it for the past couple of days....played it right up to the 'Train' level before stopping. The gfx imo are at par/slightly better than the PC version...
