FarCry vid card review

Game stutters both with 8.10 and hotfix. Stutter is evident with anything from 0-4xAA. Catalyst AI options have no effect on stuttering - turning the thing off seems to lower fps in DX10 mode by quite a bit as well. Stepping down to 1280x800 makes the stutter feel less severe due to high fps...

FarCry vid card review

I'm getting the same severe stuttering. FPS in DX10 is better (according to the benchmark at least), but the game stutters so badly that it's almost unplayable. Everything's just fine in DX9 though.

How are there still should I buy 260 or 4870 threads still?

Another thing to take into consideration: 260 is still retailing in many countries at its original price point. Then again, that would make the 4870 a clear winner, right?

nVidia GT200 Series Thread

I'm still maxing things out comfortably (except Crysis, obviously) on my 22" panel with a single stock 8800GTX. I don't have any plans to go for a bigger monitor, so the GTX 280 is probably overkill for me.

FYI, I live in Thailand. I just spotted a price listing for the Core 2 Duo E8200 on the website of a store I frequent. It's listed at exactly the same price as the E6750. Let's hope E8400 gets an early release too...

Mobo or RAM?

Just ran Memtest on each stick. Just one pass per stick though. One stick from the brand-new pair passed all tests. The other one from this pair had four errors in one address. As for the other pair: one had 22 errors in 5 addresses, another had four in one. Guess the first one from this...

I turned on my PC this morning and it gave me one long beep and three short ones, the signal for a memory problem. It then boots normally. World in Conflict benchmark performance dropped from 24fps to 14fps at 1680x1050, everything maxed out in DX10 mode. Experienced sharp performance drops in...

Call of Juarez benchmark DX10 out

Using 158.45 drivers. 1280x1024/no AA/2048x2048 shadowmap/high shadow quality: avg 27.0 1280x1024/no AA/2048x2048/normal: avg 27.5 1600x1200/no AA/2048x2048/high: avg 23.5 1600x1200/no AA/1024x1024/high: avg 24.8 (shadows became really blurry for a second or two in some spots)

I have an E6600 running on an ASUS P5B-E. Today, I decided to push my rig a little and pushed the CPU to 325x9 at 1.4v. Somehow, the BIOS message "Core: 2" was gone and Device Manager reported only one CPU. 3DMark06 CPU test score dropped from 2080 to 1300-ish, essentially proving that only one...

Sub-par Oblivion performance with 1950XT

Get rid of AA, then reduce grass distance or get the Shorter Grass mod. Big performance gain right there. I run Oblivion at either 1280x960 16xAF 16xQ SSAA or 1600x1200 16xAF 4x SSAA, with Qarl's Texture Pack 2, Natural Environments, Cities Alive at Night, Phinix Waterfix, Qarl's LOD Normal...

G80 Drivers

97.44 = weird lines and 'skewed' Cheydinhal trees in Oblivion for me. I've rolled back to 97.02 for now. I get flickering distant textures in Rainbox Six: Vegas with 97.02. Can anyone confirm if this is a driver issue?

Does it make sense getting an 8800GTX over the 8800GTS?

If you've got the money and you aren't planning to change cards for a very long time, then nothing counts as overkill. I vote 8800GTX too.

Sound card recommendations, please...

I just built a new rig a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, getting a 8800GTX meant no sound card. Now, with muffled sounds in Oblivion on anything higher than basic acceleration, I think I've had it with this SoundMAX ****. Any tips? I use a headphone, BTW. Plays lots of games. A bit of music...

Fifa 07 and 8800GTX

Yeah. I still have nightmares about one PC FIFA game that doesn't let you head the ball unless an AI player is going for it too. Pretty stupid. To be fair, though, FIFA 07 is the first title in years that actually moves the series forward.

Help me upgrade my GF?s PC for The Sims 2

A 2800+ with a 9800 Pro can handle the game, but not quite easily IMO. Especially when you play with more than 4 sims. A 7600 series card and some more RAM should do it.

Fifa 07 and 8800GTX

If you force AA through the CP, you get massive stutters during cutscenes. The menus are totally crap. Those oh-so-complex screens of scrolling text performed badly on my both my old rig (P4 3.0GHz, 6800NU) and my new one (C2D E6600, 8800GTX).

SC Double Agent framerate

Game's badly borked on my rig. C2D E6600 8800GTX 2GB Everything at stock. Sometimes it crashes. Sometimes I get heavily corrupted graphics. I guess it's a driver issue.

Is the 8800gts-gtx that much better?

I haven't tried an X1900 card, but the performance I get from my GTX probably means a resounding yes to the OP's question. Great IQ, great FPS, silent.

I hope this won't result in a severe GTX shortage on launch. I'm getting a GTS myself, but I don't want to see double demand for it if GTX cards go AWOL. So those of you with $650 (or more) in hand waiting for one, hold onto it. Don't steal my GTS! :D

Updates on R600?

R600: Nobody knows anything, although I can't see a brand-new high-end part debuting at less that $600. RAM prices: Maybe, but don't expect a drastic drop in price. PCI-E 2.0: Q3 2007 is the ETA, IIRC.

nVidia to launch DirectX10 in November?

Hmm. Could that be the same unified shaders that's apparently not required for a video card to be branded DX10-compliant? That's no main feature. The theoretical 8x efficiency and the geometry shader are the main features.
