that is some funny stuff right there... i returned a video card that my brother ruined by messing with components while computer was running...over a year later. i love newegg. oh, and did i mention that the video card was a refurbished card to begin with? yeah, they are great...

i believe that they meant 'silicone' fluid. it is used as a lubricant, kind of like hydraulic fluid, which is also non conductive...

computer powers itself on

How far can I push my ram?

well, i have crappy pqi ddr2 667 with a stock vdimm of 2.00 volts. i turn that up to 2.2v and i can run stable at 800mhz. but now i run it at 730mhz with tighter timings... my e6400 was at 3.2ghz and ram was at 800mhz. i double stick taped a old cpu fan to the top of my dimms. its real quiet...

2.64GHz single core vs 2.54GHz dual core

i think dual core is nice in the respect that you can minimize a game, mess with another program, then restore the game with no trouble at all. i could never do this "easily" on a single core no matter what speed it was running... like bf2 and teamspeak is a good example.

nVidia overclocking with new CP

it depends if you are using vista or xp. vista will only let you use the "control panel" thing with no overclock settings. in xp you have an option to use the classic side bar thing and it does have overclock settings. another way around this is to download nvidia ntune and it will allow gpu...

eVGA 8800GTS 320 MB UT2004 Widescreen Patch?

or go into the shortcut for it under properties and look at the "target" line in the window. at the end of the string put a single space and then type this "+szx 1440 +szy 900" (no quotes of course). it should work if the config file does not do it.

i currently have a evga 7900gt and a used evga 7800gt on the way. both have 256mb of mem. a 7800gtx has 24 pipelines and so does a 7900gt. the 7800gt has 20. i should be able to unlock the other four, right? i would really like to be able to sli these suckers...

raidmax also makes decent power supplies. cheaper too. and you can get them cheap at frys so if it is bad, just exchange it...

video card messing up w/ overclock

i like myocardia's idea. if orthos will run at the overclock speed fine, but when you are using the CPU AND the video card stressed, and it messes up, the extra draw could be throwing it over the edge.

concave? just slather on a really thick layer of as5! :) no, but really, cooler air moving the heated air away from the HSF is a very good thing to have.

Overheating Issue

if its that old, check for dust buildup. seriously, dust can really screw up a good cooling situation. it blocks air ways and it can also just rest on stuff and insulate it.

i assume that you have run this setup with out the over clock with no problems right? the video card isn't just bad to begin with? if you can try a different vid card. that out of the way, seriously try to fix your heat issue, video cards really hate being too hot. the x1950xt is already...

i love this mobo. bios rev 1707. i run vista business ed. with the new bis rev. you have more options for vista and 64 bit OSes. vista has sound options and x64 has ram options.

the extra heat from you other overclock could be messing it up. what chipset are you running? just because catalyst center is talking does not mean it is the culprit...

well, i have had stunning results with my setup(see below) but not till i updated the bios. alot. 4 different occasions to be exact. im running idle at 23C or 33C depending on what OS im running at the time. (or that could be the version of speed fan i guess) it required no CPU voltage...

well, first just see if it will run stable by turning up the fsb. leaving the voltages alone. if you can get away with that and not turning your ddr2 800 down to 667, then that would be the best performance. if that does not work, turn the ram multiplier to 2.5 so your ram is 667, this will give...

for ddr2 4-4-4-11 is pretty good, especially for 533 cheap stuff. dont complain about that unless it doesn't actually work (stable). my ddr 667 xms2 got 5-5-5-15 at stock speeds.

Gigabyte DS3 + E6400 questions/problems

i did clear the cmos (jumper and the hold down pwr swich method) i have decided that since i went "cheap" and only got the e6400, i would splurge and get the intel 975xbx. so thats what im doing...their manual might actually be in proper english too.

MSI 975X Platinum

my gigabyte ds3 with a e6400 said at boot up that it was 66x7 or 8. but in windows it was fine... but... i could not get my bios to oc, so i took it back to get a bad axe. ( i know they work, i saw it get overclocked to hell at quakecon)
