I bought one when they were $1200. Returned it because I couldn't get a it's native res (1366x768) to work from my htpc or laptop (6600gt and radeon 9600). This was over the DVI > HDMI and VGA connections. For $1000, I probably would have kept it, my Xbox 360 looked great on it.
There's some...
What are you asking people to refute? That the Pent D 805 is faster? It's not. That's it doesn't generate more heat? It does. That it takes more power? It does. That it's a cheaper option, at least initially? Well it is..
Some of us have to make our immediate dollars stretch farther and can't buy $250 Yonahs :)
But come on, the whole point here is how does a Pent D (805) compare. It takes more power, and overclocking is never guarenteed. But it's cheap and isn't that bad of a performer.
That's all my point was. I like my X2 3800 a lot, it was cheap, takes little power, runs on a so so motherboard, and at near 4800+ speeds (2.4GHz).
But I needed an HTPC box and on a budget, I don't think the Pent D 805 is that bad of a choice.
It was a Frys special, Antec SLK1650. $59 - $30 MIR, you can probably find the deal in the forums.
Stock vcore. 57'C load temp, two instances of Prime95. EVGA 6600GT. Maxtor 160GB 5400rpm drive. Asus P5SD2-X motherboard. Prime95's been running for ~24 hours.
Maybe I got a good one, but...
Just curious, what do you guys pay for power? In Seattle, we pay 8.39¢ per kWh, over the initial 10 kWh per day.
Also, how much power do you think both procs take? Can we compare a oc'd X2 3800 to an X2 4800 and an oc'd Pent D 805 to a Pent D 840? If so looks like the Pent D 840 is ~90 watts...
I'm kind of a budget guy, so part of my X2 limitations might be my ECS NF4 board.
X2 3800 + ECS 939 NF4 board (Fry's special) = $305 incl tax
Pent D 805 ($135) + Asus P5SD2-X ($69) = $215 shipped
So not quite twice as much.. but I still like them both.
I have a so so X2 3800 and a decent Pent D 805. The X2 is oc'd to 2.4ghz, the Pent D to 3.4ghz, both on stock cooling. I don't game much, so all I really care about for speed is xvid encoding. The X2 is about ~10-15% faster.
You rock! I've been looking for a deal since they brought back the Shox NZ. Wish they brough back all the original options, but still good enough. Thanks!
Biosylum: what hand are you thinking of? three sixes for six, double run of four, and knobs?
6,6,6 + 4,5
6,6,6 + 7,8
to few or two many fifteens?
how about:
5,5,J (knobs),K (or any non J face) + 5
Just order a i9300. Used the Home $750 off $1999 coupon since my total was $2044. The Small Biz 35% off makes sense if your total is more than $2142 (savings will be more than $750). If you're going budget, use the $600 off $1699 coupon in the Home if your order is under $1714, otherwise you'd...
looks like the buy.com 40gb ipod dropped in price. it's now $343.99 - $20.00 = $323.99. with free shipping, that's $16 better for me than the costco deal (WA tax).
i still went with the costco deal, gotta love return policy.
I think it was hot vs the Bestbuy deal.

Celeron M 1.3ghz (1MB cache) vs...
my only issue with the machine is the weak 4cell battery they ship with it vs the normal 8 cell one. but other than that, it's a deal.
anyone know how well the celeron m 1mb cache procs compare to the 512kb cache?
V2000 for $205 shipped ground. Sounds like a lot but find me another case that can hold my 12 IDE drives, boot drive, tape, and optical drive for similar money.
Good find Nessism, thanks.
like tmoney777 i got a few of these (pata) for $238 on Compusa's turkey day sale.
i thought the pata version didn't have command queuing.

The Seagate 400GB drive is $238 shipped (plus tax) with the 15% off ($280 base price).
The black friday sale for it is $300 - $40 instant rebate - $30 mail in rebate. It's worth the $8 for me not to put up with a rebate, might worth it for you too.
they had tons of 250gb drives at the Mountlake Terrace (near Seattle) store. they didn't stop anyone from getting more than one, saw several people get baskets full.
works for me now. was able to sign up, no problems.
now i gotta figure which two times a year i will miss out on a grande latte so i can afford this ;)
