There really are no shortcuts here i'm afraid. ie you want a 1920*1080 res from a lcd tv being used as a PC monitor then you're going to have to splash for a 1080p tv or just accept your current 1366*768 res...

Your problem is occuring because your lcd is running at 1920*1080 & it's a 720p screen but capable of 1080i. If you try to run the screen at 1080i res with a PC then your screen will refresh @30hz instead of the usual 60hz as it's running in interlaced mode which will result in screen flicker...

HD 3870 512MB vs 8800GT or GS

8800gt is about 15% faster than a 3870 & that gap only widens if you want to use AA but you do get better media capabilities inc hdmi with ATI. I'm in the UK as well so there's no $120 (£60) 512mb 8800gt's for us so i'd recommend waiting the 2 weeks (June 16th) for the new 4850 as it's going...

Wait till GTX280 comes out and get 3 for TRI-SLI

Mediaportal is superior if you primarily want to watch videos rather than record tv. Mediaportal is free so i'd suggest you give it a try as you can still use the remote.

Want faster loading of videos and pictures..fluid operation

You need power dvd & an app which can use the the power dvd codecs for hardware acceleration of x264 mkv's. I use mediaportal with xp pro & that works great for me with my 1080p mkv's.

Have to agree with ashishmishra you must not have the graphics drivers installed. Check the driver cd's that came with your mobo for the correct drivers... Although getting yourself a cheapo SAPPHIRE 3450 will still be MUCH better than the gma950 (especially with regard to hd video)...

.mkv in XP MCE Subtitles and Commentary?

I use mediaportal with the mce remote & in that the 4 coloured buttons change this stuff. The yellow & green buttons control subs & switching between different audiotracks in mkv's... Not sure if mce proper works the same way but they are similar.

I use my PC below with only a 32 inch 1366*768 samsung R87 lcd tv & that has been working great for nearly a year now. However you should find out if your tv has 1:1 pixel maping as this is going to be fairly important if you want to use your screen at non standard resolutions (ie in games)...

Captured video using X1950XTX VIVO is black and white using PAL Camcorder..
