    BIOS recovery problem

    Asus boards have a built in bios recovery system. Just unplug your PSU for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Unless you have totally cooked your bios, it will reset to factory defaults and boot.

    I'd connect them with a crossover (peer-to-peer) cable and boot into safe mode w/network support. You might have better luck working with it in safe mode.

    Define "very high temps". I think that's is the key issue here. A CPU running at 60C is "very high" imo. Esp. when the manufacturer says 61 is it's "rating", yeah whatever that means.

    Steam is just a distribution client. It allows Valve to distribute their software (and others) online. It also allows you to not ever worry about losing your media. If you reformat your PC all you need to do is reinstall Steam, and re-download any games you have purchased. No more lost CD's...

    Exchanged my E6400 today, and now getting 28C idle, 42C with full load. Definitely some of these chips are running hotter than others. I had no problems exchanging mine since it was running close to 70 and was only rated for 61.

    Meh, I don't see this having any real effect on anything, even if it is real. If you have bad ping times in LAN games, learn2network. If you have bad ping online, guess what? Your nic isn't going to fix that.
