I've re seated and checked all connections. As for the thermal compound, I put about a pea size in the middle when seating the cooler. Tomorrow morning, I plan on taking everything apart and starting over. The frustrating thing is, the OS was installed and working. Due to the high idle...

New Build Trouble

Ok heres where I'm at. unplugged and reseated everything, including CPU. Reset cmos via jumper and removed battery. Still nothing. Computer worked until I put aftermarket cooler on it. So could I have damaged cpu? Could paste have gotten somewhere it shouldnt be and cause a short?

Ok, installed new cooler, cleaned old paste off and all. Now I get nothing on boot, fans spin, pc turns on, but No picture. Checked all monitor cables. Also the MemOk button is constantly flashing. wasnt before.

Right now cpu temp is at 70 idle. Plan on overclocking anyway, So i need to get cooler and paste today. Perhaps I set it wrong in the first place, will find out later when I re-seat it. Got boot order settled, thanks. Windows is not showing HDD only SSD, but it's in the bios. Am i missing...

Putting together new gaming rig, here are my problems. 1. Asus P7P55 E-LX mobo with i5 760 Getting CPU overheat error on boot, have to press f1 to bypass. First step reseat and apply paste? How do I check temp, and what is normal? 2. Had problems with boot priority, OS is installed...

Should AT include OC'd Cards in Reviews?

Agreed, putting OC card against stock cards in a launch review is questionable. But I stop short of making accusations that Anand intentionally tried to deceive readers and somehow undermine the launch.

I've been reading articles here for years, I've never had any reason to believe Anand is acting as a shill for greedy corporate fat cats. Plus they were very forth coming in response to the upset. I was alluding to the fact conspiracy theory has been injected here.

Thanks for reply. Quick question, not that a hundred bucks for a blu ray is bad, however, I don't own any blu rays and don't plan on it in the future. Could it be used for backup? Or should the 80 something bucks saved by using DVD go somewhere else in the build?

Battlefield 2 or battlefield 2142?

I agree, I have both and I find the gameplay on BF2 to be better, the new one is just a prettier version and is too futuristic for my taste. I like flying the jets and helos in bf2, i bought 2142 when it came out, and have played it very little. Both are great, but 2142 is just a polished BF2.....

For those of you in the know, american micro brews are making some fantastic beers these days, German beer is good, but I support america! Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA is simply one of the finest beers I have ever consumed. Hop heads rule!

Digital SLR Camera recommendations?

No, it only has to be a cannon compatitble lense, which there are many of. The glass you buy is almost as important as the body, if not more.

Budget system reccomendations - need suggestions on a processor

I would say the E6300 is the way to go, or an AMD dual core option. The savings for a cheaper chip wouldnt be worth it IMO. If you want it to be Vista ready a dual core certainly wouldn't hurt.

SD to MicroSD adapters

Mini SD's are pretty cheap now adays. You can probably pick up a gig on the egg for less than 50. Micro SD is helping with those prices, im waiting on NanoSD,,,,,

laptop + fishtank = death

About 5 months ago, I did something unspeakable. I spilled a whole class of Jim Beam and Fresca right into my Alienware laptop while playing CS. Granted the thing has a P4, and a ATI9700 and is three years old, but the thing cost me 3,000 when I bought it. It instantly crashed and I smelled...
