2 HDDs, XP installed on one, followed by Vista on the other.
XP build busted (due to failed overclock) - now want to reinstall XP - but I don't think I can without loosing vista ?
I've tried and boot-sector is on the XP drive ...
also boot.ini is not used by Vista anymore so its not...
hi there - my Corsair RAM has exactly the same issues, its 6400 C5 stuff, but it won't run at DDR800 if the FSB is pverclocked - no matter what volts I throw at it.
Also it HATEs with a passion 8x401 or above .... no matter what people say here about it being more stable .... and a friend of...
no - only tried 2 overclocks over night - I'd always assumed before than 1 -2 hours was enough ... obviously not.
but both overclocks I tried - failed at either about 7 hours 20 or 7 hours 40.

It almost seems that at most overclocks - Orthos Blend works fine- but has an error after 7 hours 40 minutes ...
I can't see what would be particularly different @ the 7 hour point that it would at the 4 hour point say - temps aren't a problem.

cmdrddredd - can I ask what you rev and serial number is please (its on the side of the memory module - easy to read) ? As from that its possible to determine the manufacturer of the actual RAM chips - yours probably is Inferion or Micron ... mine is PROMOS :(

I know it runs at 800 MHz so runs to spec, but I almost feel like I've just paid for the Corsair Brand, but then got the cheapest of the cheapest RAM with fancy pacakaging over the top of it :(

thanks - you're probably right - they probably are just really poor overclockers/don't like voltage. I would have expected 10% overclock - but nevermind
you read some people here with same RAM managing DDR 1000 @ CAS 5 ! they must just be really lucky I suppose.

I've been rather disappointed with the matched 2 gig pair (2x1Gig) of this RAM - its standard 6400 stuff, TwinX, CAS5 version.
I've never known RAM NOT to like extra Vdimm before ... which seems to me an odd behaviour ...
At stock SPD speed 800 MHz, 5-5-5-15 - 1.9 VDimm is fine, Orthos...
I just tried a test ....
set memory to 800 MHz - stock in bios - at SPD settings ... then ran Mem Test in dos ..
@ 2.1V - memory fails at test 5 - 380 errors in that test alone
@ 1.9V - memory passes
Looking at Corsair support forums, normal solution before RMA'ing when people have...
Execine - have you reset the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard ? After doing that - the 16 gig went away - and it would restart and post properly.

trying again now at the x8 x400 range ...
needs more Vcore - but interestingly even at same cpu speed and higher vcore - temps for equivalent CPU speed are lower than with x9 multiplier.
which do I trust more for temps - TAT or Core Temp ? Core Temp - worst so far is 56C

True - but Orthos/Prime is a bit of a picky beast .... :)
I had an overclocked Northwood - ran 24/7 no problems, games, encoding etc, ran Prime and it lasted 2 minutes !
I did a Blend test last night at a new overclock speed and it failed after 8 hours - I'm still counting it as stable though.
Anything could have interacted with Orthos after 8 hours - and even when video encoding etc - very very rare to go 8 hours with both cores fully loaded ...

Have you done a bios upgrade recently ? I know I said that 8*401 wasn't stable, well after bios upgrade, I tried it and PC would hardly boot/ and sometimes not post - Bios stated 16 gig ! even though it wasn't.
I cleared the CMOS using the jumper on the board, and it now states the correct...
darn, my RAM really is pants (I'm discussing it on another thread too) - I can't really RMA it as it works perfectly at what its rated to do - I can't "expect" it to overclock :(

I must have a bad batch then - as it runs fine within its specs, but anything over 2.0V and its awful.
Even @ 800 MHz, 1.9V is fine, BUT if you raise it to 1.95 - Orthos lasts 3 mins or so, 2.0 and above, 1-2 mins.
Currently best I'm managing is 720MHz @ 4-5-5-15, which gives half...

Mine won't run at all over 2.0V - won't do more than 1-2 mins in Orthos above 2.0V, 2.1V and it will hardly boot

Yes - I've now given up to get above 3.2 gig on my E6600 - just receives more and more volts for tiny increases.
I've settled at 3.18 gig @ 1.4375V (bios)

If that still doesn't work - then its probably the mobo - they don't seem to like much over 370 apparently anyway - I need too much volts at 360 - so I don't go above there. Reason small fft works is it doesn't put much stress on the motherboard/ram combo ... for instnace if I overclock my...
I've had to work around the RAM limitations, so I now run @ 710 - 5-5-5-10, - 354MHz*4 fsb, which is about 3.2 gig with my E6600, as I said before, VDIMM = 1.9V

On word of warning Anthrax .... my same TwinX is very picky -its not that overclockable but its not too bad (manages 700MHz @ CAS4, and 850MHz @ CAS5) - but is VERY picky with the volts it has on it.

I have same E6600 and mobo, if you have RAM settings set to SPD, then thats your problem for sure, my RAM won't run over 700MHz @ CAS4, which is the SPD setting for under 800 MHz.

the only thing I regret is buying the RAM I bought - Corsair 5-5-5-15 TwinX ...it doesn't overclock well at all ! - best I can do is 850 CAS5 - at any voltage, which is a bit pants really.
at CAS4 it can only do about 650 MHz, I'm currently running it at 1:1 @ 700 MHz, but...
Renozi - certainly am :) brings a smile to my face every day (1) with how overclockable it is (2) how quick it is with games, (3) how quick it recodes DVDs for my PDA etc :)

1.4375 is indeed before Vdroop - running Orthos small - probe reports 1.38V - which I suppose isn't that high at all really is it !

I'm running at the moment at 1.437V @ 3.2 gig -is this too high for 24/7 operation.
I can run at 1.3875 at about 3.0 gig.
At the 1.4375/3.2 gig I'm at about 39C idle (as measured in TAT, 35 in Probe), and max load temp in TAT running...
Spectrum spread to Auto ? I thought there was only Off or On ?
