You might get some cooling, but not much. I had the motherboard tray on one of my computers cut away behind the cpu... only to get to the bolts of the rather large heatsink I had on it. I got tired of removing the motherboard every time I wanted to replace the CPU. If it makes you happy, cut away.

Just buy a usb compact flash reader. $15 and you save the batteries on the camera. I have used a 256mb CF in this camera and read it fine with my reader. The camera will only work with up to 32mb over the camera's USB cable.
