Alienware uses muxes (requires a reboot of the system) to allow you to switch the integrated GPUs off completely, so you don't have to worry about Enduro or Optimus.
Also, if you buy an i7-3720QM or higher in an Alienware M17x or M18x you can overclock it.
If you're moving it daily there's no question; desktop replacement. Cost really isn't astronomical for the power they have (7970M = underclocked desktop 7870, 680M = underclocked desktop 670)
Just beware the muxless 7970M and broken Enduro drivers.
Ordered the EVGA 768-P3-1362-TR. Blind purchase, upgrading from a GTX 260. Play at 1680x1050... probably not worth the upgrade!
EDIT: Decided to cancel the order. No reason to upgrade ATM, and the 460 is so far unsupported in OS X.
I'm upset.
I passed on the $10 deal, thinking that my disc copy of Civ IV complete was good enough. Then they roll out Steam for OS X and look what we have, Civ IV is SteamPlay Compatible.
Give this one a big ugghh.
Pen & Paper + Auto-Document Scanner = Searchable PDF's.
For me, you get the best of both worlds. There's a tactile responsiveness to pen and paper that a touchscreen can't yet replace.
How are you liking that Mini? I'm really thinking about picking one up. My Mini 10v didn't have the screen real estate I needed and my Quad Core desktop really is vastly overpowered for what I do, so this ION netbook seems a nice fit, especially with the 3GB DDR3 Potential.
Anyone know how to delete a file from the EFI partition? I know how to mount it, but I don't have permission to delete the 'Bonjour' folder I put there.
Also, what's better the 64bit R1000 kext or promiscuous mode?
Both the PS3 and PC will use matchmaking and P2P servers, so I couldn't really detract from the PC for that. The PC uses VAC and a proprietary IW.net so I think cheating will be very well controlled.
There are considerations to be made for both.
I'll do a Pros, Cons and ??? for both platforms.
Playstation 3
+ Resale Potential
+ High likelyhood you'll find online matches;#2 Videogame Preorder on Amazon
- Guaranteed Paid DLC

And boy has this PC community shown its maturity through this and the earlier Left 4 Dead 2 boycott.
I haven't been able to read the word 'InfinityWard' without an expletive preceding it for several days now.
More than ironic is that the same posts usually rag on anyone who plays a console...
So why is it impossible for a user's connection to provide a decent server for, say, 16 players?
I really am curious what the limitation is and how what hosting companies are offering is different technically to what a consumer can buy from a provider.
I played Call of Duty 4 on the PC and found 8 - 12 players the sweet spot anyway. So forgive me if I am not up in arms about losing the capability for 64 man servers.
So, no one, not a single soul has tried IW.net and can speak to its performance? Yet there is this immense backlash? IninfityWard did drop the ball with their announcement. There should have had ample demonstration of the system that's in place, but who's to say it won't work very, very well?
Can I activate an x64 Windows 7 RTM Ultimate installation with an x64 Windows 7 Professional key?
Of course, expecting the system to have Windows 7 Professional features.
We shouldn't be fighting a ground war in Afghanistan. We shouldn't be nation building. We need to secure Pakistan's nukes and then get out of the far east.
Isn't this supposed to have Uncharted 2 in there?
Where's the value here?

That spare 120GB from the normal slim is worth at least $5.
Owners of LEGO Rock Band on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be able to enter a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website. The website will provide instructions allowing owners to unlock the export functionality of LEGO Rock Band. At that point, players will be able...
I haven't tried it myself, but a piece of software I've seen is called PlayOn.
www.themediamall.com/playon/
Here's a good demonstration video.
It's also available for the Xbox 360.
