  1. Poll: Would you buy a case without 5.25" (optical drive) bays?

I wouldn't buy a case without one, but I'm greatly perturbed that I can't remove unwanted 5.25" bays like I can a lot of 3.5". I only need 1! I'd prefer the room and it's a proper place for a 120mm intake... sigh.
  2. Corsair 650D vs Antec P280

For the OP's usage, choosing between the 650D and the P280 I'd vote P280 without much question. I categorize the P280 as versatile (quiet or gaming or a little of both) and the 650D as enthusiast gaming with the choice of fans and fan speeds to bring the noise into tolerance. I'm going with...
  3. can 5400rpm cause game lag after map load?

Ahh. That is interesting. I used that as my research terminology and found people with similar issues that got similar answers. It sounds like I'll be unable to change that power setting within W7. I think my green drive is going back to my server where it belongs and I'm in the market for a new...
  4. can 5400rpm cause game lag after map load?

I'm not looking for opinions on what drive would work best for my games drive, I'm just asking if there's any reason a 5400rpm or 32mb cache drive would have any impact on performance after the map is loaded. Slow map load is the obvious downside of 5400. How does it "kill the drive"? What's...
  5. can 5400rpm cause game lag after map load?

Problem: Intermittent skipping, stuttering, hitching, lagging during games using green 1TB hard drive. Solution: Green drives firmware is immune to windows power settings and turn themselves of frequently causing these issues. Answer post by: I'm getting a hitch in game. I was running...
  6. Backup Solution Advice Needed

It's a shame you are just large enough to miss the WHS computer limit (10). That is great for managing small networks and you can set it to schedule off-site backup syncs and user permissions. I don't recommend the up coming Vail version as it removes the drive extender that the previous version...
  7. Steam is pretty underwhelming

If you have it set to not save credentials (say for a public computer) it disables offline mode. If you have that setting checked maybe you can make it there and change it. Settings > Account Tab > Don't save account credentials (uncheck)
  8. Steam is pretty underwhelming

    I derp.
  9. Reaction to P/H67 defect - What will you be doing for new builds?

I went ahead and built my P67 system. I have 4 SATA3 connectors which is plenty for me. It's only a defect if I'm affected, and I don't foresee that happening. When the time comes to update my wife's computer she will inherit this board, since she uses even less SATA devices than I do, and I'll...
  10. Steam is pretty underwhelming

This is so true. It was critical for me to have the disk at one time and now I prefer to have the digital copy sitting safely on the steam server for me at any time or place I need. The installation is so easy too. I just hit install and it downloads it as installed, something I don't think...
  11. **OFFICIAL** AT Battlefield 3 FAQ and News Thread

I think you forgot the "Bug List" section in the OP. >.>
  12. Sound card suggestions (music only)...

I love my Asus Xonar Essence STX. You can change the opamp to suit your preference.
  13. Steam is pretty underwhelming

Steam Cloud is pretty awesome, as long as the game supports it. The sales they have are amazing. I really can't live without the steam overlay now that I'm so used to it. Steam updates all my games for me. I believe it can also keep your gfx driver up to date as well... I'd have to...
  14. 6950 crossfire flicker?

Are they running at different refresh rates?
  15. DEAD:Command & Conquer : Red Alert 3 at Impulse $4.99

Steam has sales on that entire franchise quite regularly, but not at the time of this posting sadly. Just keep an eye there if you are still in the market. ;)
  16. OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SATA SSD $99 AR FS at the Egg of course!

=S I just bought an SSD yesterday and this was one of the drives on my list. At the last minute I was steered toward an Intel, but that's a price worth taking a chance on IMO.
  17. free charmin extender

I would be too embarrassed to buy those giant rolls of TP. That would rank right up there with purchasing hemroid cream or adult diapers. Only 3 posts shy of a signature! =P
  18. PDFZilla Free Until Feb. 5th

I missed this by a day, but I've never had any reason to stop using CutePDF.
  19. P67 + Gskill RAM timing issues

The PC is running fine at 8-8-8-24. Perhaps a bios update would allow me to run the timings the RAM is spec'd for, but I don't expect any discernable gains. I just got a great deal on an Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD. ($140) Tax return just in time. =D
  20. P67 + Gskill RAM timing issues

I'm not used to the UEFI, but it had a profile I could select which did match my RAM and was different than the timings it defaulted to on install. I tried that, but I also set it manually because I didn't totally trust the profile. I think one of these is in my future. I don't need a lot of...
  21. P67 + Gskill RAM timing issues

This is exactly the conclusion I came to earlier. I hit the wall of diminishing returns as far as CPU/RAM for desktop use is concerned and an SSD is the only bottleneck left to improve that environment. I appreciate the response. Cheers.
  22. P67 + Gskill RAM timing issues

    I... You... Forget it.
  23. P67 + Gskill RAM timing issues

I have to admit I wasn't really impressed with desktop performance of my new system. Windows opened and task bar stuff loaded about the same as my last system. I started to wonder if I was getting all the performance out of my RAM so, I reved up CPUZ and checked out my RAM timings. My memory...
  24. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

You're correct. I think some of us in this topic were commenting on our new builds that are on hold for 3 months. It raises some questions on what to do with the CPU. Considering the loss Intel will take I was questioning if the price of the CPUs will go up in coming months.
  25. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

I purchased my CPU at Amazon and I did get an RMA number. I was thinking I might keep it after considering the prices for that same CPU might be more expensive come April considering the huge loss Intel will be taking. I can't decide.
  26. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

It looks like within the last 45 mins they have reversed that decision. I'm now showing that the 6 series are refundable on newegg. I think this is a wise decision on their part. They get to uphold their customer service reputation.
  27. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

The point of my post was that they (newegg) changed their policy and are not giving refunds for 6 series boards, yet I was able to get an RMA for refund number by demanding one through the live chat. I can't promise everyone will get one, just saying it's worth a shot if you are in the same boat...
  28. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

FYI: Newegg changed their return policy for JUST 6 series motherboards in wake of this news. I contacted them via live chat and demanded an RMA number. I got it.
  29. Intel says flaw in Series 6 Sandy Bridge chipsets

Z68 is still in the 6series family.
  30. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

Quite a bit really. I have no interest in 3D. I've purchased a "3D ready" monitor because when used in 2D it has incredible gains over current 60hz LCD for gaming and even desktop use. The reason I want to be in the ballpark of 100fps is, unlike a 60hz, I'm able to see those frames. I mention...
  31. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

I'm able to work neweggs website. >.> We've made it into forum hell because some people suggested my prices were high and I only asked for links to these lower prices. No such links have been submitted, only links to the same prices (or more expensive >.>). My prices are more or less correct...
  32. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

I'm still getting W7 listing at newegg. Maybe a direct link to newegg might work better.
  33. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

I already have Windows 7 =P Might want to edit that first link. The link to the 6950 (2GB) is about $330 on newegg (with tax). Amazon has them at $300 out the door. We are all speaking the same language I think. Any thoughts on the performance of the cards in question?
  34. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

I see $289-299 for the 6950s. I'm being approx. with my $300 estimation, but I think we are in the ballpark unless you have some links to something drastically cheaper. @Jack =P I was hiding my interest in CF, but I was CAUGHT! -EB
  35. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

Amazon had the cheapest new 6850s I could find for $175 with free shipping and no sales tax. I'm open to direction if it means saving $50! Links? =o
  36. 6850CF vs 6970 (1920x1080@120hz 2D ONLY)

Hello, I'd like to poll the community on my future purchase. There is a similar thread, but the OP was targeting a different resolution, so I'd like to get some feedback that's a little more customized to my needs. I just ordered a 120hz 1920x1080 23.6" LG monitor (not tv) to use in 2D...
  37. SF Bay Area: Sonic.net Fusion broadband 20mbps/1mbps + unlimited phone service $39.95

I swear I checked the availability for my area (95117- West San Jose/Cupertino border) and was thrilled that a faster, cheaper solution was available. I wanted to schedule a disconnect with AT&T and make sure there were no hidden cancellation fees with them before I ordered from Sonic. Now I'm...
  38. AnandTech's host is back offering a VERY HOT deal, $1 for 6-months of Web Hosting!

Are there any limitations on CPU usage? I run some business websites that are just static pages, but for fun I have a gaming community that are more dynamic. Typical forum software that doesn't require a constant connection and real time stats tracking for our game server. Is this something I...
