Anandtech Dominator memory on the 975X
Sometimes I don't understand how these reviews work. The Corsair forums specifically state that the 975 chipset cannot achieve memory clocks > 1000GHz and remain stable. The P965 can. Yet this review has it doing just that.
Comments Phile?
965 vs. 975.
I currently have the P5W Dh and am very happy with it. I am running an E6400 OC'd to 3.28GHz with watercooling. Rock stable with memory OC to 820Mhz.
My question concerns the new Quad-Core systems.
I guess I have been disappointed that the P5B seems to clock so...
Has anyone run Corsair PC8500 Dominator memory on the P5W DH?
I was looking at :
Corsair XMS2
DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Timing 5-5-5-15
I have got my E6400 to FSB 410 Vcore 1.40, vMCH: 1.65,
OC to 3.2Ghz with water-cooling
My memory is Corsair XMS2 PC26400. 2GB at 4-4-4-12 at 2.1...
Yes I have that beep. Its fine.
I also have seen that F1 error before. I think the board does have a bug of some type regarding the ATAPI detection.
If you are booting into Windows and all is well there then you are good to go.
Good Luck!!
Neil
Got your picture.
One question.
What is your BOOT order.
Make the RAID boot first (before the IDE DVD device) and let me know if this problem goes away.
Thanks,
Neil
NO SATA drives are not difficult.
My advice is to not put anything on the JMICRON controller. Use the primary IDE channel below the floppy for your DVD or CD-ROM drives. That JMICRON controller is flaky. If you Google JMICRON and P5W DH you will see what I mean. There are numerous reports of...
No, Leave your Raptors alone.
Move your DVD jumpers (on the actual drive) to CABLE SELECT, plug it into the IDE Slot right below the floppy connector and boot. On page 2-32 the manual indicates CABLE SELECT or MASTER. If Master is not working then use CABLE SELECT.
The ASUS CDc sucks. I...
Hi,
See if in BIOS going under IDE and changing the IDE detect time to 20 secs makes a difference. Then diable the JIMICRON controller in BIOS.
Also
Are you overclocking?
What is your memory running at and lastly
do you have external hard drives connected???

Try removing the extra Raptor.
Boot into XP
Shut down, attach the 2nd Raptor.
Boot into the BIOS
Check to see if the 2nd Raptor is detected.
Set your Boot Order
Make sure your IDE is setup in BIOS per 5-30 in the manual
Make sure that CONFIGURE SATA IS CONFIGURED AS IDE (not RAID...
If you create the boot disk as I described above (DO NOT USE the ASUS DISK, they messed up and put only the ICH8 driver on it) then you WILL have an ICH7R driver in the list (I did). You just have to scroll down to see it. You should use the correct driver ICH8 and ICH 7 are not the same and...
RAID on this mobo is SATA. SATA RAID Boot time is ULTRA-FAST and APP LOADING is unbelievable. I hope that the above advice shows you how to install XP to your RAID setup in one smooth step.
If you want a PATA boot drive then:
Use The IDE Controllers (Blue) on the mobo and arrange the BIOS...
I have your answer as I had the same issue.
FIRST: UNPLUG ALL EXTERNAL HARDDRIVES, XP IS NOTORIOUS FOR INSTALLING THE OS ON UNSUSPECTING USERS EXTERNAL DRIVES.
FIRST MAKE A FLOPPY WITH THE ICH7R DRIVERS
You can get the utility here.
First get 2 SATA DRives (no formatting needed)...
Win XP Install Done:
The ICH7R drivers from Intel's website worked great. No issues. It took 20 minutes to install XP to RAID 0 (WD Raptors x 2).
Thanks for the suggestions and help on the board.
Now back to overclocking...!!!
You think it matters that I have the original Win XP without SP@ and I plan on installing SP2 after or do I have to I have to have an "integrated" XP2 disk.??
RAID Array...must have RAID array...droool..sloober..drool...slobber
Whats the answer to the EZ-Back Build and then swap to ICH7R controller??
My solution is going to be to install to a stand alone IDE (keep it simple) and then try to use Acronos to image to the RAID later.
Phil come...
Phil,
Come on...5 years? How old is the floppy. We have 1TB HD, 2 GB Flash USB thumb drives..HD-DVD and we are still relying on a 1.44MB piece of flimsy plastic that was last used to distrubute software in 1995. In fact if you really look at it MSFT has not even specified a way to easily...
I just saw that Windows aparently is supposed to keep loading drivers and only later in the process asks for the disk. Isn't it ridiculous that here we are running dual and soon quad core processors and MIcrosoft still has us using 1980s technology to do an OS install. I mean can't USB flash...
Also can you install RAID 0 on the EZ Backup then just move it over to the ICH7R after the install. That was the third option and a lot of people say that that install was smooth. Its the switching the drives over to the ICH7R that makes me nervous. I cannot afford another Windows Install...
I needed some general advice.
I am setting up a machine with Win XP Pro (I have the SP 2 disk on a separate CD). I am installing to 2 WDC Raptors in RAID 0 on the ICH7R controller.
I am considering 2 Options
1) Install to an IDE Drive first then use Kronos Drive Image to copy it over to...
CPU-Z
My CPU-Z 3.44 Ghz E6400
Super-Pi 1M: 17s
E6400
Corsair 2GB
Nautilus 500 WC
Orthos: Stable 30 mins and counting.
I wish that that RAM could be clocked faster.
The only thing that worries me is that I have no control over what batch I get. Anyone know of a retailer that can accomodate a specialty request? Or maybe the stepping is mature enough that all the E6600s overclock well now.
WATERCOOLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I am pissed. E6400. I just spent 2 weeks trying to get to 3.4 GHz and now I am thinking E6600.
This OCing thing is a disease!!!!
I read this post on the E6600.
E660 at 3.6GHz...
1) Patriot warranties their mem to 2.3V (see the above review)
2) Looser timings don't help the P5W.

3) I am scared to volt the memory higher than 2.25. Corsair seems to say anything over 2.1 is unsafe. I know this is probably...
Basically, I want to beat the hell out of this processor at a Vcore of 1.45-1.48. I don't have the guts to go higher but the E6400 is a superb overclocker. It can do 3.52-3.6 GHz with watercooling and I am obsessed with doing that.
Phil,
I have a stable FSB at 410MHz. That allows for my Corsair RAM to clock at 820Mhz. That is the limit. That RAM will not clock higher. I have booted into Windows at a FSB of 450 and Orthos passes small FFTs but fails the blend in a nanosecond. I guess my point is that the Patriot...
Has any one had any experience with this RAM:

I didn't realize that the difference between DDR2-880 and DDR2-667 was 6% on read and 18% on write.
