If you're willing to wait a bit, there's a darn good chance that you can get a decent monitor for a great price (or a great monitor for a decent price) on black friday.

[Retired] The LCD Thread

Since I'm disinclined to read 45 pages, about how long is it expected before you can get a decent 24" for $300? At that point, I buy. Until then, 24" CRT will continue to live on with its goddamn whiny noise.

Looking to spend $1500ish on a laptop

I also recommend a thinkpad, even at a premium. What you're paying for is the best support in the PC world, the highest physical quality, and a damn nice screen. If you can get ahold of any sort of discount, student or better, then it's much more affordable. Employee discounts are the best...

get a Playstation 2 Eyetoy for $5 at a yardsale. The picture quality is great, and the drivers don't have crap (3rd party :) )

Is it really hard??

personally, i'd bump down to a 8800GTS. At 1680x1050, i don't think there'd be much difference. When you get a better monitor, you might as well get whatever GPU is the new fan favorite :) Nice choice on the case :D

Which processor?

get an Asus laptop. They are light, sturdy, have respectable graphics, and the full line has anywhere from x1400 to x1600 to go 7700, and everything inbetween. A8js (can't remember) is a great machine. go7700 512 with a 14" screen

i have a A540. It's a good camera, but not much for manual adjustments. For my sister, the budding amateur, it's Kodak Z760 till death. that camera rocks

Critique this e6600/p5w dh system please

please, do yourself a favor and don't buy from cyberpower. The prices are decent, but the parts are not. I've seen a few friends sorely disappointed with damage by shipping, and the customer support is a joke.

You have a socket mismatch... 939 can't fit on a AM2 mobo. I'd go for a x2 4600, or bump it up to a c2d if you can

What have I done?

I only buy once i've exhausted all research possibilities. I spend 4 months researching a laptop to buy that was $200 over my budget, and by the time i was thoroughly convinced it was the right one, it was available for $200 less on ebay :) Research to death is the only solution to keep me...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

mine's at work right now (soaking in low-strength alcahol for a few days), i'll let you know when i get it back <edit> little bit of googling, and it looks like it's somewhat similar to a AT101W. Alps switches.
