Folding@Home: 24 hour stats - May 24, 2007

Well, that's the last one I'm turning in for the summer. I'll be out of town the rest of the summer without my desktop. I'll have my laptop, but it's a piece of crap so definitely no folding on it. Come middle of August, though, I'll be back online with my Windows SMP client and a new Linux...

I'm going to assume it is a conditional job offer from the NSA. If that is the case, then he won't actually have a job there for about eight or nine months due to having to get the TS clearance. He should start working at Google and then transfer to the NSA when he gets his clearance, assuming...

Just a quick question??

Using beryl, you can hold down alt and use your mouse's scroll wheel to change the transparency of the active window. I don't know how to get it to remember the transparency for the windows you set though, so I always have to adjust them each time they are opened. I'm sure there is a way to...

Software Password Protection

I'm interested in this too. I tried Thunderbird once before to try to manage all of my email accounts, but I did not like the fact that when trying to log in with the credentials for one of the accounts, if I hit cancel instead of logging in, I could see any emails already in the client and...

Thanks GLeeM. Team Engadget must have ramped up here in the past couple of days. Two days ago they were looking at 4.2 months to overtake us; now they are at 3.3 months. By the way, how is sillylog new twice? =)

If the current daily average is upheld for all teams, the time listed is the time for us to pass a team (overtakes) or to be passed up by a team (threats). Teams we are threatening to overtake means we outproduce them, while teams threatening us means they outproduce us.

FILE_IO_ERROR

I get File IO Errors every so often. I fix it by restarting the client. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries, but you pretty much just have to be sure that mpiexec and the FAH cores are no longer in the task manager.

Soccer or American Football

Yes, but you realize soccer is skill with the feet right? It's very difficult to master foot-eye coordination because it is just unnatural for us. To be able to run at full speed and be under complete control of the ball requires a greater amount of skill than American football. One problem...

Advice for a 1st time flier....

It works for some of my relatives who get motion sickness. If it's a long flight, you may want to have the pills with you so you can take some more. I think they are only good for like 4-6 hours.

SMP Client "Password"

You would not complete the SMP WUs before the deadline. SMP needs both cores to be able to complete on time. Either run two normal clients or one SMP client. You'll get far more points with the SMP client and return your work back to Stanford at a higher rate, which is why they like it.

Run the fah.exe located in your SMP folder. I have a shortcut to it on my desktop with the flags -forceasm -verbosity 9 -advmethods. Verbosity is the only one that you really should put because the others have no affect right now.

any linux users with core 2 duo

Are any of you running a 64-bit distro and still getting it to work fine? When the prices drop for C2Ds, I'm going to be getting one and I want to run 64-bit so I can run F@H's SMP client. I have the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 already.

AIM messenger add-ons similar to Deadaim?

The ads are the reason I finally switched over to gaim. I liked the layout of AIM 6, but the ads killed it. Anyway, with gaim now, you can have conversations with the away message up. I can only attest to that with AIM since I don't use any other messengers, but it certainly works. My away...

Anyone Ever SkyDive?

I jumped last summer at SkyDive Dallas. I paid $309 for a solo jump. It was definitely worth the money, and if I had more of it, I would have continued through the summer to get my license. My jump was from 13,500 feet and pulled the chute at 5,000. It was a little more than a minute free...

I am running F@H gui on a couple computers, it keeps crashing...what can I do?

If you leave the GUI window open, it crashes when it finishes a WU. You can fix that by keeping the window closed (just in the taskbar) or by going to the console version.

That's cool. I have a question though: Would Stanford prefer for us to use the SMP client or two separate clients like we currently are? I know everyone likes to get the higher points with the SMP, but I would rather use what provides better data for them.

Freeware programs and applications (continuation)

Is there anyway to get Foxit to open a pdf within Firefox or IE like Acrobat Reader can do? The only thing I can find in Firefox is in Options -> Contents -> Manage, but I can't change the plugin and can only use Foxit to open the document as a new, separate program.
