Need help picking which ATI HD3870 to get

I'd recommend the Visiontek--all the Visiontek cards come with a lifetime warranty--I just bought this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814129100 Great card--has a modified heatpipe cooler and is factory OC'd.

Yep--that's my experience too--still trying to sort through the why of that--seems that there is some disagreement about that observation though... To get equivalent XP32 performance in Crysis, I have to turn down the textures, shadows and post-processing settings to medium to get equivalent...

I don't think it's a bad install--my experience is based on 2 different Vista64 installs since Crysis came out--both appeared to be clean--nothing hokey in Device Manager, etc. My only guess is the Audigy 2 sound card maybe--been alot of problems with Creative's drivers under VISTA. I don't...

It would be good to know exactly what this setting does. I've had problems (mentioned in previous posts) with moving from an x800xt AGP card to a x1950pro PCIE video card. I too tried this suggestion and have had some success with regaining some CPU OC that I lost with the video card change...

There's a BIOS recovery option--I think it's enabled by defalut, so after so many tries, it reverts to a backup BIOS--assuming the flash was successful, after so many tries (by hitting the reset buttion), it should/might recover......

Couple of suggestions-- --Check the Boot Order of the Hard Drives under the Boot menu in the BIOS --Make sure the video controller option is set to PCI-e and not AGP or PCI in the Chipset menu.

I've sent a note to Asrock customer support regarding the CPU overclock/async/PCIE graphics card artifact issue. Have any of the rest of you that have had this similar problem in this thread been able to resolve the siutation either on your own or with Asrock support??

Argh--sorry for the dup. post--anyways-- I'm reading this thread with interest because I just upgraded from an x800xt pe AGP card to a x1950pro PCIE card with my 775 DualVSTA board--exact same problem (running 2.9 BIOS). Had the CUP/FSB OC'd to 295 from 266 (E6300)--everything worked great...

Thanks--I had it set for "High Performance", but hadn't bothered to check the Advanced Settings--sure enough the HDD's were set to spin down after 20 min. Thanks again....

I'm running an ATI x800xt AGP card--wonder if it's an ATI vs. nvidia issue? I've tried several reinstalls, using xp compatibility mode, etc. The game starts, can see a grey splash screen and then back to the desktop--doesn't matter wheter I have the disk in or not.

I upgraded to Vista Home Premium a week ago from XP Home. I set it up as dual-boot with XP and Vista on separate hard drives. I have a 3rd hard drive set aside for backups, so a total of 3 IDE hard drives and 1 DVD drive--no SATA drives. What has me stumped about Vista is that after booting...

I'm having problems getting Return to Castle Wolfenstein working (sginle or multi-player)--I'm running with Admin. rights and in XP compatibility mode, but no luck--game starts and then exits to the desktop. No problems running BF2, HL2, FarCry--has anyone else gotten RTCW to work with Vista??

Check the AGP settings in the BIOS--make sure the Adapter type is set to AGP and not PCI--it's kind of easy to miss the AGP settings unless you scroll to the bottom in the Chipset settings. There are a number of AGP settings to try, but the Adapter type is probably the most important. I also...

I've got 2 x 1GB sticks of DDR2-667 RAM (Value RAM--nothing special) with the BIOS setting set to 667 (not Auto), but everything else RAM related set to Auto.
