Thanks for the reply, especially considering it further confirms that the P4 is indeed the better choice.

    For Sale/Trade sub-forum

It's not an issue of post count meaning anything per se, but if you're going to document and keep track of it, you might as well make it as accurate a representation of contributions to the forum as you can, explaining the logic behind my original post.

    Cache vs. Clock Speed

Thanks for the posts. If I could actually find a 478-pin P4 or Celeron that was faster than this 1.8A, for 10CAD or less, only then would I go for it. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money imo. And, needless to say, it's a stretch to find a faster chip for that little.

    Category Blocking

Re: profile > Personal Options > Category Blocking The listed categories are all out of order, as already mentioned in threads I found here, and here. Not only that, but the Category Blocking feature only seems to work when not in the Category Listing (i.e. "root folder") section of the...

    For Sale/Trade sub-forum

Posts in the For Sale/Trade sub-forum should not count towards post count; or at least, any posts made after the initial post. Why? Because many people, myself included, regularly bump their own FS/WTB topics up, and add to their post count in doing so, which, in my opinion, is ridiculous...

    Cache vs. Clock Speed

Intel motherboards are all I have on-hand. And again, I'm looking to spend as little as possible. ;) Also: I value system stability and peace of mind, so I'm not much of an overclocker to begin with. And the fact is that system stability is a important thing for a server of any type; perhaps...

    Cache vs. Clock Speed

Then, based on those charts, the P4 1.8A should handily beat a 2.6GHz Celeron in most tasks (assuming UT2004 is a good representation of what a Source-based server demands in terms of computing power). I already have a P4 1.8A and motherboard on hand, but am trying to determine whether it's...

    Cache vs. Clock Speed

At what point does a Northwood Celeron (128K L2) overtake a Northwood Pentium 4 (512K L2)? Or more specifically: at what point does a Northwood Celeron overtake a P4 1.8A ? Assume both are running on identical platforms with identical RAM (say, 2x1GB of DDR200). If you want to get even...

    Faulty image sensor?

Tried different modules, formatting them, and different batteries as well, though I don't see how any of these would be related to what I see through the viewfinder. That's what I was thinking. So should I contact Canon's customer service directly to try for a repair or replacement?

    Faulty image sensor?

What I tend to do is turn it on and off repeatedly, taking a few photos now and then, until it starts working again. Really though, I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem itself, rather than a solution. Or rather, by identifying the source of the problem, perhaps a more permanent...

    Faulty image sensor?

Well, my PowerShot S410 has been sent back to the repair depot twice while it was still on warranty (which it no longer is), and both times, it was sent back with nothing being found wrong with it. Back then, the problem was that the camera would randomly lock up completely (mechanically, and in...

    Rofl @ PCI

Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't the PCI bus severely limit available bandwidth to the card, and thus, limit card performance, regardless of its specs? That's the only "funny" or "sad" thing I see about this product. I'm not too knowledgeable on PC architectures, so apologies if...

    GeForce 6200 256MB vs. Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB

I actually used to own a 9600 Pro, but passed it over as a hand-me-down. It really wasn't that bad of a card. It managed to run Doom 3 in the mid 20s of FPS iirc. That's not too bad, all things considered.

True. And there's always paint. :) Though the only thing really keeping me from getting the W1934S-BN instead is the lack of DVI. For the record, here is the ideal look I would want: http://www.futureshop.ca/multi...cts/large/10107785.jpg

Looking NVIDIA card that is cool, quiet, and has low power comsumption

This post made me laugh. :P Everything is relative. I'm still perfectly happy with my 6800GT, and I am somewhere in between a casual and hardcore gamer. The 9600GT, being significantly more powerful than the 6800GT, should more than fit the bill for the OP. And there's something to be said...

Best AGP Video Card? ATI? NVIDIA?

Aren't AMD/ATI's AGP drivers really buggy? If so, I'm not sure I would recommend and AMD AGP part, since there's no use in having a lot of horsepower if it can't be put to consistent, reliable use.

Best LCD monitor for my tired eyes..

Another tip would be to occasionally look at something further away. Say every 15 minutes, you could stare at the wall at the other side of your room for maybe 30 seconds; or, walk away from the computer altogether. Don't quote me on the numbers. The idea though is to relieve the strain on...

    halogen lamp & LCD display

Is it true that direct sunlight damages LCD displays? If so, I am assuming this has something to do with the UV light which, over time, breaks apart the crystal compounds used in the display. Using the same logic, wouldn't it also be fair to assume that a halogen desk lamp poses the same risk...

That's a very detailed answer for someone so skeptical of my intentions. Are you going to help without being patronizing, or are you just going to take me for a malicious cracker and ignore me? Make up your mind. Anyhow, I already stated I'm experimenting with WEP/WPA cracking out of...

brute force password cracking capacity of a CPU

I'm not concerned about the time it takes to crack something. Just how many possibilities a given CPU can go through per unit time. I'm not doing anything too fancy. I'm just experimenting with WPA cracking, which to my knowledge uses dictionary attacks to test out possibilities. I'm doing a...

Underwater harpoon - if shot out of water would it go further than if shot underwater?

I would imagine there would be some sort of resistance and drag created by the "splash" of water as the harpoon went through the water-air interface (from water to air), but it would be negligible considering the mass and velocity of the harpoon. By "splash", I guess I mean the water moving back...
