radeon LE or GTS-V GF2 Budget Battle

MMC 7.5 first look: Update! XP + Radeon + Video Capture

Wow... downloaded it for my ATI TV Wonder, and wow! It works flawlessly, (faster than 7.1). Everything works perfectly and the newer skin looks much sleaker and fits in better w/ my Win XP.

Please help with the answer to a bet: Can you copy DVD's now, or not?

Have they isolated DVD writing technology to one strand or one major method that will be used widely so it's like CD-RW's? A while back i read an article indicating dif methods, one called DVD-RAM, DVD Writer's, and etc. Each was different and propreitary.

Any way to watch TV on computer?

Yup, TV Tuner PCI cards :) I'd recommend the ATI TV Wonder, great quality and recording capability. Drivers work 100% in XP, 2k, 9X, and ME (i've tried them all :D) I personally think it looks better than the Hauppage (saw them side by side). Better color, and sharper. It's really personal...

Radeon 8500dv (for $289) or GF3Ti500+tv tuner

The Radeon 8500 isn't too good just for gaming and tv features. A Radeon 8500 w/ a TV Wonder would be more cost effective. However, if you're using most of the features of the 8500 (Firewire, Digital recording, etc) then you should go w/ the DV since it's a pretty versatile ccard.

Crashes... but only sometimes?

Well. it's a hard lock. Usually the sound repeats, or the sound keeps on going (TV Tuner). Only a colt boot works. When i restart, the computer starts back up to it's happy self. It only happens once a while. Like it didn't happen for a good month, and then yesterday, it just locked up. It is...

New system built, CPU running at 34 DEG C, but HS cool

The P4's temps are all read from the CPU Internal Diode. Also, 34 degrees is a VERY VERY GOOD temperature. My P3 900 runs at 30-40 degress under load.

3dfx Glide Question

Best idea, go out, get a low end 2d/3dd card that will play most games but not at fastest or nicest reso (Radeon LE,Radeon 32mb DDR, GeForce Ti, all come to mind) and then go pick up a V2 or a pair of V2's over at the FS/FT forum, (they're only about 20-30 dollars) and you'll have a system...

SONY SX15 monitor

If there is no knob, and u dont have any technical skills in fixing monitors, it's pretty screwed. One way you should try is percusive maintanence. Basically, you take your palm, and smack the monitor real good. If it doesn't fix it, looks like you have to get a new monitor :D

Blurry text on Desktop (Help)

2 reasons to the blurriness. 1) TNT2, VERY VERY BAD 2d Filters. Was fuzzy for me at 1024 (Radeon Improved it greatly!) (Explains why it gets fuzzier from 800x600 to 1024x768 2) Youre monitor's just like that. A lot of aperature grill monitors have a higher dot pitch as you move from the centre...

Lower or higher Hertz better for screen

Keeping it at 85hz is usually adequate for most screens. Any more and you're just stressing the monitor more than you need it to. If however, u think 85hz isn't adequate and it "flickers" raise it to 100hz. Either way, try to keep it above 85hz, if you can go higher, leave it at 85hz.

Moire is a problem w/ the screen when manufactured. I'm not sure exactly what it is.. but it's something w/ the allignment of the ray gun, and the phosphorous screen (or w/e is on the glass that filters out certain lights so u see images). I cant remember exactly what it is, but i do know it's...

Sounds like moire problems, which are related to Monitors, not video cards. Try another monitor and see if it happens. ALso, w/ my monitor, i only get moire problems at 1280x1024 (the res i use, go figure) and all other res's dont have this problem. So... it's not your video card, it's youre...

Yup, disable truform. To do so, go into console into game and type in: ati_npatch 0 Voila! u dont have to enter it anywhere since it'll automatically default at 0 from now on. have fun :)

LCD..Viewsonic VG series any good? LCD General discussion too..

Ghosting's the only problem you might get if you'er frames are high. I've seen them on a few LCD's, and it's ugly. Almost impossible to play fast paced FPS's (for me anyways, i'm really picky about image quality).

Is VGA just a connection?

Just as an FYI, monitor connectorsr for crt's can either be BNC (5 connector, blue, red green, horizontal sync, vertical sync) or D-Sub 15 (the square blocky plug). LCD's can be DVI, Analog (D-Sub 15) or another form of digitoal connection which i can't remember the name :D

64 bit CPU??

Key is more bandwidth, more instructions per cycle. Faster. But the transition may be a problem, unless they can make a 64-bit processor that can run 32-bit program well, we'll be seeing problems here and there. Should be itneresting to watch :)

P3 700 or P3 750?

If you're getting a S370 chip, the 750's is as good a choice as any. However, if ur using S1, the 750 doesnt' oc to 1ghz too well (personal experience) but it usually hits 933mhz which is the 700's to 133mhz fsb, so get the 750's anyways, Lol.

Benchmarks for Celeron vs. PIII?

Make sure the 1.2ghz Celi isn't based o nthe Tualitin core, cuz the old chipsets dont work. Only the i845 (or i8xx, dont remember exactly the chipset number, sorry) supports it.

New Radeon LE causes screen to jitter

All games? or just some games? If it's just Half Life and CS, disable tru form by typing ati_npatch 0 into the console while in game, that'll fix it up nice and good.

looks like u have a oem Radeon DDR, which is supposed to be clocked at 166 so dont worry about it. If it runs at 183/183, then u can leave it at that. I've been running my Radeon LE at 190/190 since i got it in march and it's still going strong. no worries. Btw, is there a heatsink fan on ur vid...

New ATI drivers with non 8500 cards.

i tried the 3286 with my Radeon LE's and it's unstable at any rate. it lookes worse, 2d's slower.. and it crashes more... At least that's my experience.

Good low budget video card for a non-gamer for Windows XP

Matrox G200, cheap and has great 2d. If you can find a low price G400, G450, or a Radeon VE, they'd also be great choices. I wouldnt' recommend the nVidia GeForce 2 MX, since they often sport bad 2d. O... also... ATI and Matrox's drivers for Win XP are every bit as good as nVidia's.

<< Use the 3226 win2k drivers they dont studder, i couldn't make my radeon stop studdering with any of the newer drivers or XP drivers. >> Problem is Truform is enabled automatically w/ the newest drivers and half-life. To fix, go to console in game, and type in ati_npatch 0 it'll fix it...
