I've was doing a bit of reading on that front before buying the VX actually and it seems that not all CPU's are being created equal as I know of people who've had convex and concave IHS's on their CPU's, i7's inc'd. Mine was the TRUE black (about 4 months old) not sure what version it was really?

That's the reason I didn't have many different test results to show you guys really, as everything I did resulted in the same 2*C difference in temps compared to my TRUE, even after a 50 pass LinX run the temp was that same 2*C less

I had no option really on whether to lap my VX or not as it was so convex it was unbelieveble, far more than my previous TRUE was. On a perfectly flat surface I could get a 3000th/inch feeler blade underneath both ends at the same time :eek:

I tested the VX before lapping it on my unlapped CPU and noted temps, then I lapped the H/S as it was really convex in a North/South plane, then I lapped the CPU as that was a tad convex.

I've recently started using Arctic Silver Matrix, and doing my own pretty stringent tests found it to be 1*c better than A/S 5 which I've been using for years.

LLC - on or off?

I feel by the time we find out whether the usage of LLC was a good or a bad thing, the option to change it will have been taken from BIOS and set automatically as this has caused sooo much confusion since the 45nm chips became available.

Ok thank you.. So just so I understand it right.. OEM versions can NOT be transfered between systems, but it's fine to swap a retail version between systems even if the likes of the motherboard, CPU etc have been changed over/upgraded a few times? Kind Regards orb

GTX 295 Temps: Too high?

Pretty much similar temps here too.. 47-50*C idle and maxes at 85*C whilst gaming with 182.08 drivers.

Is an 8800GTS essential for Photoshopping/video production?

I use PS CS3 Extended version quite a lot for graphics design and photography and I've found that you don't really need a top end graphics card for it to function generaly. I've used a 7600GS, a 7950GT and now have a 8800GT installed on my system and hardly notice a difference whilst using CS3...

Which should I gamble on?

I just bought an 8800GT and its fantastic, also after reading many reviews it seems the GT comes out on top overall so I'd say get one quick, you won't be disapointed.

Cheers JustaGeek for the info, I thought it was a little hot as 115 is not that far off the thermal slow down I don't think. I have fitted an 80mm fan running near it now with another on standby just incase, they are drawing cool air in from the front and my 120mm is pulling the hot air out...
