Has anyone here tried lapping their CPU's IHS?

I think Intel needs to hire YOU and fire a few PhDs! Its amazing the dumb ideas that supposedly smart people can come up with. But related to the C2D IHS, it could be that you are both right. The Intel engineers are designing for a very warm environment at the limits of its specification...

WOW! Transfered to antec 900 and HR-03 GPU Cooler.

I just looked and mine is closer than I thought but definitely not touching. Maybe different video cards have the CPU mounting location slightly higher or lower than others. I have a Sapphire 1900xtx BTW.

I need help with screws.

I can understand that this could happen to one screw, but are all 9 screws in the shape? Was the wrong size screw used? Would swapping cases with him be an option? If the screws heads are stripped but not in too tight, you may be able to superglue a nail to the screwhead, let it dry...

is it possible to copy winxp to another hdd (without reinstall)?

Are You just swapping out one HD for another one in the same computer? If so, like Navid said, there are lots of tools. But if you are trying to move the OS from one computer to another, look at Acronis Universal Restore.

Computer won't POST

Yep, bad motherboard. Local store checked it out and found the CPU, memory, and power supply were all okay, but the MB was toast. $95 for a new one (no charge for checking out everyting). If you live in central VA, the folks at Unitek are great!

1. Orthos just runs 2 copies of Prime95, one on each core. That is what you should be running for processor stability testing. Some people have two copies of Prime95 and can run it just like Orthos does. But running A SINGLE prime95 is not a good test. It will run on one of your Cores only...

Building a new system, could use some advice.

You can buy a splitter cable that will provide the 12v 2x2 cable from a 4 pin molex. For an older computer, I think it would work fine. About $5.

If you want to run your computer at stock, I'd say these temps are fine and just enjoy. If you want to OC, you'll find that the temps will rise from the mid 60s under load into the 70s pretty quickly, and that you'll want better cooling. The best place to start is with an aftermarket cooler...

Sorry to disapoint, but this does not sound like a simple problem. It definitely sounds like something is broken hardware wise. If its something minor, you can probably fix it yourself. If its something major, you may just decide to buy a new computer (depending on how old this one is)...

E6600 temps over 65c on TAT under full load

I am assuming you are the admin so that this is not a permissions issue? Right click on the drive and select the Tools tab / and click Check Now. Do not check either of the boxes, and click Start. See if there are any errors. This may not work since the drive is not local to your computer...
