Hello, I'm about to purchase a new system, (it's been a while!) I'm planning to use it with Ubuntu only. Currently I run 9.04.
My main concern is if this motherboard will work with ubuntu.
The plan is for this AMD system:
AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W...
Too bad I run Ubuntu, and am not gonna be installing windows anytime soon. :(
I'm ok with waiting a few months, I just hope there will be support for linux as well, as I plan to run these in Myth Tv.
I just spoke to comcast.
Basically they said they will give me a cablecard for free, save a $15.99 installation fee. there is no extra monthly surcharge, except for if you want multiple cards. then t is an extra $2.00/card.
All I need is a cablecard host tuner card They dont seem to be...
heh how dishartening. I just spent all day trying to make my PVR-150 work with my comcast cable box.
I was hoping I might be able to get the S-video output from the motorola comcast box, and input it into the PVR-150 (is this card analog only? does this matter?) and therefore be able to...
What's the point? you're gonna spend all this time putting this thing together, and it will be a very very cheap computer.
Just get a cheap dell like narreth suggested, and I bet you could purchase it for the same price that you could put it together after you consider things like case, psu...
Thank you very much for your responses that is a lot clearer.
I was looking around for more options as well... what would you think about a higher powered directional antenna?
the actual distance I need to achieve is about 150-200 feet, however there are several walls in the way. I assume...
Thank you for your response...
I dont quite know what DD-WRT v24 is. Could I simply place the WHR-HP-G54 in a separate room of the home, and make it wirelessly connect to the netgear router, and then share that connection with other devices also wirelessly?
Would the netgear router have...
Thank you for the response.
I was reading over the specs and reviews of that buffalo unit. It seems it is only compatible with other buffalo routers.
Do you know of something that would be compatible with a netgear router?
Or is there a different solution to this problem?
Thank you
I have never used a bridge before.
I am trying to extend the range of the wireless network.
I have a modem hooked to a wireless router in the "Garage Office" The signal is way to weak to reach the guest house located in the backyard. Some walls in the way.
I am not 100% sure how a...

I had that same power supply,
Always had lots of problems with it until it died and took my 7800 GT with it.
I opened it up and several of the capacitors had spilled their Guts. Mine did last several months, but it always had problems.
Also I've read on forums that many other people...
I'm pretty sure my laptop does not support dual channel.
I was thinking of getting 1 GB now and another down the road.
Do you know if the price of laptop DDR is supposed to go up?
Thanks for the reply
I need to buy some of this memory
for my Dell Inspiron 8600. The laptop currently has 2 256mb sticks. Should I buy 1 GB and keep one 256mb stick for a total of 1.25 GB?
Will that old stick decrease the performance of the extra 1GB?
Also my impression is that DDR prices should go up in...
get a Biostar Tforce550 AM2
2 Gigs decent DDR2 for $69 - 99 bucks
a Dual Core Brisbane 3600 X2 OEM $59.00
Arctic Cooler Freezer pro 64 $29
whatever videocard, hard drive case etc.
Overclock that $59.00 cpu to 2.6-3.0 GHZ
Sit tight, enjoy, and wait for Quad Core, at which point you can...
They just use better components, more durable, more stable, and usually more efficient.
other good brands are Seasonic, Fortron FSP, Silverstone, sparkle.
Coolermaster is not bad, but I dont know anything about that specific PSU
That PSU would work fine for that setup. It has a 19A 12V rail, and a 17A 12V2 rail.
that would give you 230W on the first rail and 200W on the second.
The 8800GTS needs a little over 100W, and the CPU needs less than that... When you work all the other power draws into it you should be...
I've been thinking about the exact same thing!
X2 Brisbane 3600 and Tforce550 and once the K10 comes out upgrade the chip.
I think I might do it... the 3600 is so cheap... and memory is so cheap as well...
anyone know if the newer chips, quad core etc will require much better memory...
OH and btw Mir96TA,
I also think that you should get a new system including new mobo new DDR2 (Which right now is incredibly cheap... the cheapest it has ever been) and New PCIE video card.
for not much more you'll have all the goodies.
WOW
That must be a fluke. I've never had good experience with ECS, and from what I've learned from the internet ECS makes some of the lowest quality boards available, that is exactly the reason why Frys keeps selling them for free bundled with dual core cpus.
I wouldnt take that chance...
I have had a dell for 3 years... and it still works great. very solid. I bump it all the time. it gets very much abused, and its stood the test.
Everyone I know that has Gateway has a LOT of problems. Always having to send it back. etc.
Multitasking aside, and the fact that x2 is dual core.
Are these two processors very comparable in gaming performance?
The reason is... I own the Venice, and I am thinking of upgrading to the 3600, although that would require new mobo and ram.
Is that upgrade worth it? WIll the only...
I am also interested in this topic.
So What PSU would you say is more efficient a NON PFC 70% efficiency PSU
OR
an Active PFC 80% efficiency PSU?
How much energy does the active PFC actually waste?
Hi, I've never used any type of stress tests before, as I do not overclock much.
I always hear about orthos and others.
What programs would you recommend to fully test the stability of a system?
Thanks
I'm sure you can get to 3.6 no problem with the right components...
but 4?
I mean you don't reeeeaaally need it that speed do you? I'm willing to bet that you willl considerably reduce the life of your cpu if you keep it overclocked at 4.
Maybe you can test it just to see if you can...
You took too much man... too much.
You might be able to get to that speed.... but why? you might get instability etc.... It seems that people have had better luck with the 6600 in getting over 4.0 GHZ than with the 6700
anyhow here's a nice link. you can see what people have used, what...
I've had real bad experience with that PSU
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=27&threadid=2035299
I've had another bad experience with a 420W Antec PSU as well.
I would suggest a better brand like Seasonic or Fortron
My faulty PSU was an Antec Neo 480w.... and it crapped all over itself. That wasnt my first bad experience with antec PSUs either.
I am a firm believer that Antec makes absolute "crap" Therefore if I were you I would change the PSU regardless just on principle and safety for the rest of your...
