  1. Windows File Explorer Gurus - I need your help!

Great! I'm going to start with these things. And I'll be sure to check out Class Shell too. Thanks for the help.
  2. Windows File Explorer Gurus - I need your help!

Sorry, I guess the question was a bit open ended. Just looking for suggestions to make it easier to work with, if there are people who have changed it from default. So far I've removed some clutter, still have a folder called "3D Objects" above my main drive, and many times I'll make a...
  3. Windows File Explorer Gurus - I need your help!

I've been on Windows 10 for a long time now, and I just have yet to get comfortable with File Explorer. It seems like every aspect of its default setup is just terrible. Does anyone have an example of how they've made it work for them? Or some important settings to start with? It feels like...
  4. Upgrading to gigabit router and AP, looking for advice

Thanks for the advice guys, it helps me to narrow down the choices.
  5. Upgrading to gigabit router and AP, looking for advice

So the router and AP together are about $150, which is the same or less than a lot of the Linksys and Asus, etc, routers go for. Is there any reason you would get one of the WiFi routers, like an Asus? Simpler setup?
  6. Upgrading to gigabit router and AP, looking for advice

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my router with a gigabit router. I think 10/100 is probably fine for my internet speed (100 down/ ~20 up) but I'd like to have more headroom for a NAS I'm planning to install and a steamlink. Wireless performance is not as important to me as I use ethernet, but my...
  7. Benq BL3200PT 32" 2560x1440 monitor

Thanks for adding your thoughts on the monitor. I'm torn between this and the 27" Asus Swift monitor, although it is harder for me to justify the $800 just for the G-sync and high speed panel. I'm leaning toward the Asus because I'll be using this it for gaming, but $800 for a TN is a bit steep.
  8. Benq BL3200PT 32" 2560x1440 monitor

Here's another review if you need a third opinion. The consensus seems to be that it is a good monitor with great contrast ratio. I was considering it but I'm hesitant because of its size and lag for gaming. https://pcmonitors.info/benq-bl3200pt/
  9. Building a *nix desktop/server, questions about hardware support

Ok thanks for the help, I've got an AMD radeon in there now but i'll look for a nvidia card when I'm setting it up for linux.
  10. Building a *nix desktop/server, questions about hardware support

I'm replacing my PC finally, but I thought my current Intel C2D would still make a good linux pc/server which I've been meaning to build anyway. I'd like to replace the GPU with a mid-range card that uses lower power than my current one. Are there any cards that work well with Linux...
  11. Securing a new Win 7 Laptop

Oh, "run as administrator"! I should have guessed that... Thanks!
  12. Securing a new Win 7 Laptop

I followed (most) of what was on your guide MechBgon, thanks! I'm wondering, now that I have to install software with the Administrator account (which I had to "un-hide" with "net user administrator /active:yes" how do I make sure the software is installed for my standard user? I don't want all...
  13. TV for human beings | Ubuntu

Unity looks like it will make a gorgeous 10' UI, despite the fact that I don't like it for my desktop (yet. I need to give it more time perhaps). Now we've got boxee, apple TV, google TV and a few others all competing. Maybe Ubuntu is planning on making hardware? (I doubt it though)
  14. Arch Obsession?

One interesting thing about Arch is that all the software is completely untouched and vanilla and not tailored to the distribution like many others. That makes it challenging but also more customizable I guess.
  15. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

...and the sound, and the performance, and the menus, and the graphics... There are so many bugs that no one can even agree on what is broken, its different for everyone. I just had the sound cut out in the game. Looked that up on tripwire forums and it is very common. It is also common that...
  16. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

Nope, just the normal version. I'm at level 40 or something like that and most of the guns are leveled up to at least 5, some up to 30...
  17. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

I've played less than 10 rounds
  18. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

For some reason all of the weapons are unlocked and it says I have ~3000 kills... WTF?
  19. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

That "approx one hour" is not really accurate, it could be any time today. I checked at one point after it said "one hour" and it said "four hours." So basically, it should say "sometime within the next six hours."
  20. I like Gnome 2.0 too much

Did you make that using unetbootin? How do you set it to be persistent?
  21. Samba setup questions

OK thanks. It looks like I have to use security = share to get what I want, but I'm just going to make a guest account and have people log in using that. By the way, do you know what the "locking = no" parameter does in your setup?
  22. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

Why download the patch when the full game comes out in an hour? Edit: looks like they changed it to 4 hours now. I imagine the developers are scrambling right now, getting one final patch before release.
  23. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

It's called freelance. Feast or famine as we say... No work this week :)
  24. Red Orchestra 2 releases August 30

ARGH I want to play it now! It said "approx. 2 hrs" for like 4 hrs now! WHEN?!
  25. Samba setup questions

I am setting up a samba share on my little pogoplug server (thanks to the thread here I have it set up with debian!). I've successfully gotten it to share my user home directory. I want to add a general public share for anyone on the network. I know I could add users for everyone in the house...
  26. Is sandy-bridge far more difficult to overclock than Core 2?

I've been trying to dig up that article, if you find it post it here, it sounds interesting!
  27. Is sandy-bridge far more difficult to overclock than Core 2?

There used to be a sticky for overclocking C2Duo and Quad processors, but not for the newer processors (nehalem, sandy bridge). I looked around online for a guide like the one we had here for C2D, and it seems like overclocking is WAY more difficult. A ton more voltages to consider, making...
  28. moving windows-created directories?

I realize I can't fit windows and apps on a 64GB SSD. I just know that the user files, such as app data, can tend to get pretty big when you have a lot of games installed. I know I can move program files but I'm afraid that the games will still dump app data in the users directory. With a full...
  29. moving windows-created directories?

I'm planning on getting an SSD but I'm not sure how people manage to get windows to move default directories like My Documents and Program Files to another drive. If I get an SSD I'd rather application data is not stored on it, but I've never seen an option for moving it somewhere else. As...
  30. Intel SRT questions!

Simple questions about SRT that I couldn't find a clear answer to: Does setting up a HDD with an caching SSD require a reinstall of windows? Is using the maximized setting as dangerous as RAID 0 (I.E. would YOU use it, or stick to "enhanced"?) What if I don't want to spend more than...

Yes, its a 4-pin that is controlled by the computer in relation to temperature.
  32. Guide for installing a Full Debian install on a $33 PogoPlug

How do you find the external IP address of the pogoplug? I usually access it via SSH on the LAN at 192.168.1.100
  33. Guide for installing a Full Debian install on a $33 PogoPlug

That is pretty impressive that it all runs on that little pogoplug. I was wondering if it is possible to get access to your drives from outside of the network and what it takes to accomplish that? Do you have to setup a LAMP server to do that? IF so I'll just stay with Samba, which I'm still...
  34. Guide for installing a Full Debian install on a $33 PogoPlug

I just got samba to work with the pink version, which was exciting! It could use some configuration though its still pretty basic. It is a pretty little device and it would be more awesome if I were a linux guru, but alas... I'll keep trying to tweak it. Good luck fellas.
  35. Silverstone Temjin TJ08

That definitely looks like a good alternative, I'll check it out. Are there any other good cases comparable to these two?
  36. Silverstone Temjin TJ08

Anandtech just favorably reviewed the Silverstone Temjin TJ08. Does anyone have an experience with the case? I can't seem to find it in stock. Are there any other similar mATX cases you would recommend? I'm looking for something without a power supply that will hold a full size GFX card and...
  37. Guide for installing a Full Debian install on a $33 PogoPlug

maybe I will start a new thread for my samba issues, I don't want to clutter this one up. Thanks I'll look into the issues it has with win7
  38. Guide for installing a Full Debian install on a $33 PogoPlug

I'm trying to get samba share working with windows on this thing but haven't had luck. I am using this tutorial: http://www.unixmen.com/linux-tutorials/1524-standalone-samba-in-debian-squeeze The shared directory isn't visible on my windows machine, and I'm not sure what I have to do to see...
  39. What happens to a mount dir when not in use?

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll mount my drives under /mnt/ to avoid confusion.
  40. What happens to a mount dir when not in use?

Is there a way to have a mount directory that disappears when the drive isn't attached? It isn't really necessary to me but I'm just curious. I'm working on a bare-bones system without a DE but on a desktop distribution there's gotta be a way for the user to tell easily if the files they're...
