Been sorely tempted to get the ACER G-Sync but kept holding off to see what would happen when the ASUS version comes out. Not sure what's keeping them from releasing but I just might give up and go for one of these and forget about g-sync for now.
lol no doubt. I want to be able to transcode to different res devices as well as stream music.
My collection (music, photos, videos, and other random crap... ) has grown beyond what my current storage supports. I've also encountered some bit rot. I was gonna kill a couple of birds with one...
Thanks I will check out that case study. FWIW, I'm not gonna be building out an array of SSDs... in fact my plan is to reuse as much of my current hodgepodge of disks as I can.
The application I'm most concerned about performance wise is media streaming (which can probably be largely offset by...
I am (was?) close to pulling the trigger on something similar... maybe even this weekend if good deals are to be found. My goal was to build an all-in-one, esxi-based lab that I would run software raid, a media server (or two to experiment), and maybe one or two other utility VMs. Was thinking...
Anyone out there have experiences building an HTPC w/ a dedicated GPU in a mini-ITX format? I'd like to be able to run MadVR+SVP and do a little gaming all in a small package. Wondering if folks here have experiences with this and any particular cases and/or cards you might recommend. Probably...
Thanks for the info guys. Still trying to decide which platform/software I'm going with (all things being equal I would prefer linux but I'm concerned I would miss some of the streaming services).
Since LoveMachine asked... here's a diagram of what I am looking to do:
Basically I was...
I am planning a PC to use as a streamer for both audio and video. I intend to feed the audio through a DAC. My preference is to use a coax to the DAC but it appears the ITX boards only have optical outs. Most of them (not ASrock it would seem) have SPDIF headers on the board which I could hook...
far be it from me to compliment MS but the native HID stuff seems to have just picked up the device and configured it *almost* correctly. I don't care one iota about the "rumble" effect... it does not seem to have gotten the 4-way rocker correct (wants to read it as "dial" and "x rotation")
heh... fair questions (and gross oversight on my part)
Vista Ultimate 64, GA-P35-DQ6, 4x1GB Mushkin D9, QX6700 (anything else you think is relevant?)
I've been running with a plantronics USB headset since the initial install of the system without incident. I finally got around to needing...
The RealTek control panel has the analog inputs grayed out.
It certainly does not detect when I plug in anything into the back panel or the front panel. I have cleaned all the drivers and re-installed 1.84 (even unplugged all usb except for my mouse) as suggested was suggested in another...
Yes it is... your point?
I've not lost sight of the fact that it might be too good to be true (if, in fact, that is your point). This is from an ebay seller (who runs a real building business... the ebay channel is secondary). He's got a fine rep and this pricing is not far out of line with...
I've been offered an opportunity to by an "overstock" item from a builder (previous buyer backed out).
I've been thinking about upgrading my fx-55/6800-sli for a while. This machine
will be used for gaming, some modest encoding, and work-related projects
(programming/debugging multi-tier...
I built a HTPC using an Intel DG965WH. Occasionally the sound goes out. I've not had much luck isolating the issue and I've tried reinstalling the drivers without success. It would go in and out and, in the past, I've been able to get the sound working again but not it seems gone for good :-(...
about a week ago I had updated my bios on this board to the latest official version (1016). I was required to upgrade my chipset driver prior to the bios upgrade.
I'm not sure if it started happening exactly then since I was doing a bunch of other stuff (installing some periferals, doing some...
Contemplating an upgrade to get a little better gaming performance on my current rig. I have an fx55/a8n-sli premium with a pair of evga 6800gt's. I get in the low 4000's in 3dmark06... nearly 10k in 3dmark05. I was pretty much middle of the pack for similar systems with the 7950/fx55 but there...
You have to take raid 5 into account... check out the follow calcs using prices from NewEgg (pardon my LISP... I did it in EMACS). The main advantage right now in getting the 320s is that I have to buy new cages sooner and they are a bit faster... in the end we are only talking about 1-2 cents...
Where did you buy them from?
At newegg it was nearly a wash between the wd@250 and the seagate@320 (~$.30/G) when considering each drive. Turns out for the raid 5 array i'm putting together initially it's more cost effective to buy the WD from a $/Gig perspective (at least at the 1TB level)...
It seems pretty clear that right now 250GB is the sweet spot in drives today and it seems to have been there for quite some time. I am am setting up a RAID array that I want to be able to expand over time. The question is in a couple of years when I want to buy a couple more drives to throw on...
Putting together a raid 5 array on a server that will serve up media to one or two tv's as well as hosting a SqueezeBox server. Probably do ripping on it as well. Probably will *not* do any PVR functionality on it.
I've got a SATA2 raid card that (by definition) supports NCQ. Sticking mainly...
