Back on topic then, XFX have "okay" cards with a nice brand name, my experiences with them have been mediocre at best but the black PCBs were nice to look at, after using ATI cards for the last 3 years I'd rather buy Powercolor or maybe even Palit (my 4850 Sonic is still alive), lifetime...
How about JFAMD as a cpu subforum mod? No? I tried to find a thread where this is explained and found nothing here, that bit in ABT was interesting though... so a "rollo" passed his torch to keys. If keysplayr has any decency he will step down but that's asking for too much is it? The current...
Off-topic but why is someone with ties to one company a super moderator here? What help can he possibly give except market for Nvidia? And why cling to it instead of stepping down?

I might be too optimistic but doesn't this mean bulldozer is promising in terms of performance? Otherwise why go through all the trouble of releasing 800 series mobos and hyping up am3+ support?
My impression is unless you're rendering or video editing and the like, 4gb is usually enough. I'm a renderer and 4gb is lacking for me so I upgraded to 8gb and observed if I needed more; turns out I really don't since around 2gb is still left when rendering my heavier scenes. I imagine HD video...
Like the others I buy cards with non-reference coolers. Better cooling and they usually come with a nice OC already as a starting point for your own, and only for a few more bucks too. 10 bucks for a 10% OC with a better and quieter cooler is worth it for me.
What's your argument then? He said the 6900s are hot and loud, you say the difference is all but negligible and cherry picked reviews to support that claim. Is the 570 the new baseline, that if cards crossed they are considered hot and loud? What's your point?
Your personal experience is not universal truth; you didn't provide proof; you can check anandtech's own articles unless you believe they're misleading; and I own a 6950 and can provide data... so yeah you're trolling.
6950/6970 is hot and loud? Can you provide proof? Because I can provide proof that shows the opposite. But I'm sure you already know that and just trolling :)
I know and that's not even my question. I was asking if mjolnir is the driver that supports multi-thread rendering since they claim huge gains, and I don't think I need an english lesson even if it's not my native language. ;)
My sentiments exactly.
Isn't this more of a moral dilemma? How hard is it to flick the switch back if the card dies after AUSUM mode? The same can be said to everyone who overclocks, if your card dies because of overclocking and overvolting, will you send it back to RMA even if most warranties don't cover it? AMD made...
I like the simplicity of EVGA's stickers, especially when compared to most asian brands. One of the worst I can think of is the sticker of a cyborg frog from Palit, lol.
I have a 6950 PCS++ that has not one but two similar fans and it is silent at idle. Is the sound really coming from the video card and not from the PSU? If it's from the card then there must be something wrong with the fan.
The Gainward Phantom looks really nice, I'd like to buy one just because of the looks :D
I also loved the way the 7900GTX looked years ago. It seemed the look alone made it faster.
Scott Wasson sure loves his aconyms. Also having read HardOCP's article, that rumor about new drivers throttling perfomance should be OCP holding back overclocked cards, meaning the rumor is quite true.
Yeah but isn't the 5770 almost at the end of it's life? The 6790 needs a price cut that much is certain, but what I'm saying is if AMD feels they can get away with $150 they will. Then again, the next viable option is a 6850 for just 10 bucks more which is faster than a gtx460 768mb, they still...
Yep, we did. I checked the 550 review after seeing the title because it was very familiar. I have to agree, that even if the 550 is around $130 now AMD doesn't have any real reason to bring the 6790 down in price, business-wise that is.
Great review and the conclusion is spot on :)
It's like AMD is pushing people to buy a 6850, although there might be others who will misread the model number and think 6790 is faster. I know I was confused a bit when I first saw the 6790 number :D
This doesn't help much but I have an MSI board (890GXM) and the same 6950 PCS++ and it runs at 16x. It seems that the only thing you haven't tried changing in your rig is the PSU?
possibly relevant...
Do you provide additional support for the end of the card (with the power connectors)? That cooler is huge and the card in SPCR's review dips down because of the card's overall weight.
Probably nothing, since his association is already known. I will offer a different perspective: most guys here have owned an AMD and Nvidia card, the current status being more people probably get their jollies now using AMD cards. They can switch brands anytime depending on their wants/needs...
I don't get why some monitors don't play nice with video cards. I was using DVI with no problems on my 1080p monitor, then had to change to HDMI and experienced scaling issues and had to set some overscan thing in CCC. I mean, why don't they just work?
Dragon Age 2 I bought from a store is cheap although it was over too quickly... but I did play almost non-stop :D
Why is the steam version so expensive? It's almost double what I paid for a retail DVD.
Nope I bought the pre-unlocked model from Powercolor. It has around $10 premium over the other 6950s but the assured unlock is worth it IMO. I then overclocked it :)
You already have a 5870, I'd wait if I were you. I came from a 4870 512mb so the upgrade was significant and I can really say I...
Yeah the 560Ti is cheaper here, and after around 3 years of using ATI cards I was looking into using an Nvidia card again, but the value of the 6950 was impossible to resist :D
