The E6300 is a great processor and won't be holding any current games back overclocked or not.
Personally, I would go with the E6400 and the 7900GS.
I have the same board and it was causing problems for me as well. Just make sure the HSF is securely attached to the CPU.
simply, reattaching the HSF fixed it for me. Also make sure you put your RAM in from left to right, othewise you won't be able to update your BIOS.
