Well, there goes that idea.

At it's stock 2.4ghz I'd imagine it would bottleneck crossfired 4850's, but not a single.

What temp is my Q8200?

No, the Vcore drops under full load. At idle it's at 1.264v, under 100% load it drops to 1.216v. I think I read somewhere my motherboard has some sort of anti-V-droop setting...guess I'll have to read up on it.

What temp is my Q8200?

Hey, just wanted to post a screenshot...I'm excited, this is my first real overclock. Screenshot The hottest core hit 56c and the coolest 49c with a 100% Prime95 load. Though I'm curious, how much V-droop* is normal? Before I stopped Prime95 it was at 1.216v and it's now at 1.264v.

Thanks for the replies. How hot is too hot for a 45nm quad? The Intel website shows my Q8200's thermal spec at 71.4c. With help from the GIGABYTE Forum Moderator "Lsdmeasap" at TweakTown.com, it's sitting at 49-55c @ 100% load across all the cores (using RealTemp) running Prime95...

Motherboard from eBay?

The board is $100 on newegg...and I'm cheap, but motherboards seem much more prone to gremlins than any other part of a new build. The board is sold through mwave.com's eBay account as new. Should I save $16 or just from newegg?

Q8200 overlocking?

Need a new motherboard and Intel CPU...

I've been waiting for "Cyber Monday"...but are the deals really going to be that good? With Live cashback at 30% on eBay I can get a new Gigabyte UD3P/e7200 for $170'ish, or the UD3P/e8400 or Q8200 for $205. Do you think there will be better deals on Monday?

Ports on the motherboard. This setup was rock stable right before I switched cases. It would be on for weeks at a time between reboots while gaming, editing and encoding.

See, that's where I messed up before. I bought a Biostar TForce s939 (w/integrated Nvidia 6100, but I used a 7600gt- to be replaced by a 4850) and an Opteron 165 (1.8ghz). I ended up with one of the better 165's that would supposedly clock to 2.8ghz+, but the Biostar limits me to 2.25ghz. Oh...

I hope you're also going to jump to an overclocked Q9xx0 / e8400. Is it not hilarious to see GTX 280's on Newegg with their full MSRP at $649, then you click "see price" and it's all the way down to $469 with a $30 rebate? Hasn't the card only been out a month or so?

If you're not shy about rebates and changing your system up, best price/performance would be: -sell your 8800gts for $90-100 -sell your board for $150+ (if possible, I don't know the market for used mobos) -add your budgeted $200 And buy 2 x rebated 4850's ($300) and an X38 board...

No, the PSU is fine for all but the most power hungry high-end cards. But, spend the extra $10-20 and buy the 8800GT over the 9600GT.
