I put an 80 gig drive in my creative labs jukebox 3 and took the original 20 gig drive out and upgraded an old laptop with it. 9533 songs and still 13 gig free. No worries encoding 256 - 320 vbr at all.
I love the creative labs line of players and bought my girlfriend a 30 gig M for Christmas.

For the op 12 ft isn't too far to run audio cables. You don't want to lay them down parallel to your power cables. And definitely use the Line ins and outs.

I ran my PIV northwood 1.6a @ 2.3 for 99% of it's life. It would run higher {I think I could get it to post @ 2.7} but with diminished returns at that level.
