    I think that when filtered through price it's tough to beat p965. When you ignore price, 680i and 975x are the choices. If you don't need SLI (and you don't), P965 is the C2D chipset to get imo.

    My DDR2 1000 is not overclocked - it won't post @ DDR2 1000. I've manually set the timings (5-5-5-15) and voltage (2.2) at bone stock settings and it won't POST. I'm reluctant to increase the voltage....I don't want anything other than the stock performance.

    BIOS was 0602, I'm on the latest version (same as the previous board). I suppose it's not that big of a deal. It just seems like I spent a lot of money for RAM that has absolutely no headroom and barely (in this case doesn't) runs at its rated speed.

    This might be a better solution for you. All of my fans are sleeved bearing crappy case fans. When I slow them down, they're silent (and still move adequate air).

    Yeah that temp is pretty darn high. I have a stock cooler (E6600 stock settings) and the same board, I'm getting 29 idle and 52 under Orthos blend. I'm using F10 BIOS. By case does have some pretty decent cooling though (3 - 80mm fans on the 5V rail).

    My E6600 is L640A633. With a Tuniq 120 and stock voltage I was able to get 3.37 without breaking a sweat. The max temp, loaded with Orthos blend, was like 52. I would expect that I could get 3.5+ if I tried a little harder.

    That's true - but the pins are right undeneath the VC. If you have a large GPU (like I do) there isn't room for a plug or wire. I was thinking of using a spare reset switch I have from another case to do just this - there wasn't room.
