WD 640gb Black drive /32M cache/5yrs warranty for $70 shipped from newegg!

Any review of comparing WD black with Seagate 7200.12? I tested the 500gb 7200.12 and WD 640gb black myself using HDtune. The transferate for them are 106MB/s and 94MB/s respectively. Looks, Seagate 7200.12 is abit faster, however the acess time is not impressive, only 14.8ms.

The 750gb one might not be as fast as 640gb one. I am not sure but I think WD uses 3x250gb platters on 750gb drives and 2x320gb platters on 640gb drives.

DEAD--These are dual 320gb platter drives with pretty good reviews--The price went up from $60 to $75. If you want faster HDs, you may consider seagate single platter 7200.12 for $65 shipped or WD black drives for $70 shipped.

Your Vcore is a bit high to me, I am running my Q6600 @3ghz with P5B deluxe board, the VCore I set in the BIOS is 1.225V, super stable under prime95 test. My board was pencil modded to decrease the VDroop. Before modded, it required 1.25V in Bios to be stable at 3Ghz.

Budget options - replacing a dead e6400

If you replace your current motherboard, you have to reinstall everything including OS, all drivers.. what a hassle. I don't care whether it is two C2Ds or three C2Ds glued. I can play games with downloading and other applications running at background. I wasn't able to do that with my E4300...

Budget options - replacing a dead e6400

just get a Q6600 and OC it to 3Ghz (mine is running at 3ghz with vcore lowered to 1.25v), paired with 8gb ddr2 RAM(will cost less than $50), pretty fast machine to me.

Seagate 7200.12 500GB

I think the 32M cache will not impove the performance much, since WD6401aals(dual chip 32M cache) is just slightly faster than WD6400aaks(single chip, 16M cache) link. The Seagate 1TB 7200.12 drive is coming out. It has 32M cache.

That is not bad to me, even slightly faster than WD 640gb black drive with 32M cache. How many years warranty for this drive? I could not find any warranty information from newegg and seagate. You can check warranty of your drive here.

I cannot decide on a HSF

Q6600 or Q9300

thanks for the information, Phenom II 920 is nice. Newegg has a combo with 790gx for only $295. However I just bought a p5b deluxe wifi, What I need is just a 775 processor. I will slightly oc, and will be happy with a quad core processor runing at 3ghz.

I will definately take HD4670 over 9600GT since I am just a light gamer. UVD2, HDMI audio and low power, all these features are more attractive to me. The msrp for 4670 is only $79.99, I bet the street price will be $50-$60AR soon.

yes, I think it's an eSATA port. An Athlon 5000+ is less than $100, I suggest 4000+ which only costs $60, since the 780G board supports hardware decoding, a cheapest dual core cpu is good enough. You should be able to overclock it to 2.6Ghz-2.8Ghz easily. For intel platform, E2160/MCP7A...

780G is definately a good choice for HTPC, UVD supports H264, VC1 hardware decoding, HDMI audio and intel Avivo..gigabyte 780G mATX motherboard at clubit. I will jump when newegg has them, the price is still a little high now.

newegg has 3850 now for $179

I don't think 3850 can beat 8800gt, for the first comparation the 8800gt ran at resolution of 1600x1200 while 3850 ran at 1280x1024, but it will definately blow the 8600gts which is in the same price range with 3850.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 BE2300 1.9Ghz only running at 550Mhz?

That's quite normal, Cool&Quiet, when idle the frequency of the CPU drops, as most laptop CPUs do, in order to improve the energy efficency.

not good for OCing, Tons of errors detected, when working with my Biostar Tforce965pt, if I set the mem divider 400Mhz and OC it back to 667mhz(fsb 200-->333). They work fine with my tforce6100 board at 750mhz 5-5-5-15 2T, my guess is the super talent pc5300 can n't be run at command rate of 1T.

I was trying to say the cache doesn't affect alot. if a allendale and a conroe run at same frequency, benchmarks are close.
